You Can’t Change Your Pokemon GO Username or Team (For Now)

We can wait... and dream!

If you chose a username for Pokemon GO that you wish you hadn’t we’ve got some bad news for you.

Unlike the nicknames you can give your Pokemon in the new smartphone game, once you’ve set your username, that’s it. You’re locked into your choice for the foreseeable future by the looks of things.

When players reach level 5, they’re also given the option of three different teams to join to help control the different Gyms that have been placed all across the world. The three different teams you have are basically, Red, Blue, and Yellow. Named Valor, Mystic, and Instinct respectively, these teams are also seemingly one-time decisions. Once you’ve chosen who you want to align with, it doesn’t look like you’ll get another chance to change it, at least for the foreseeable future.

Of course, there is always the chance that this could all change in a future update to Pokemon GO. If enough people regret their decisions Niantic and The Pokemon Company might just listen to our prayers. We can only hope.

For now, be sure of the choices you make. It’s better to take a little extra time if you’re only just starting out getting your choices right, than regretting them a little bit later on.
