Warhammer Chaosbane

If you’re itching for a new Diablo-like, you just might want to have Warhammer Chaosbane on your radar. Taking place in the Warhammer role-playing world, Chaosbane lets you choose between four unique characters classes to stop the overwhelming Chaos hordes from destroying the world.

There seems to be a ton of different customization options in the game, really letting you fine-tune your playstyle, and there are even multiple modes. In addition to the main story mode, there’s a boss rush mode, side dungeons, and more content coming post-launch.

With the lack of a proper Diablo entry in recent years, Warhammer Chaosbane could help fill that gap.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

ps4, games, releases, june 2019, list

The first Trails of Cold Steel already hit PS4 earlier this year and now the second, and arguably better, Trails of Cold Steel II is arriving on the system. This pair of hugely underappreciated RPGs tell an epic story about a group of students in Class VII at the Thors Military Academy, in the Erebonian Empire.

Cold Steel II picks up right where the first game ends, tasking Rean Schwarzer with traveling to find the lost members of Class VII. We’ve talked about what makes the Cold Steel games so great before, but basically, they combine strong turn-based combat, Persona-like simulation elements, and a massive overarching story.

If you haven’t jumped on board yet, now’s the time before Trails of Cold Steel III releases later this year on PS4.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr

Elsweyr is the latest expansion to The Elder Scrolls Online, and it brings dragons back to the world of Tamriel. The expansion sees the winged beasts soar above the sands of the Khajit homeland, which you’ll get to explore in full.

Along with a brand new location, Elsweyr also adds on the Necromancer class, letting you harness the powers of death to do battle.

If you’re a fan of The Elder Scrolls series, this is one must-play expansion in June 2019.

Vacation Simulator

ps4 games, june 2019

You’re probably familiar with the cult VR hit Job Simulator, letting you play out all your fantasies of goofing off at work, whether that’s an office job or working as a gas station attendant. Vacation Simulator takes that same idea, but applies it to, well, vacations.

Heading to vacation island you can visit three different locales; the Beach, Forest, and Snowy Mountain. There are a number of tasks and minigames to complete, but it is your vacation, so if you want to just go and mess around that’s your choice.

In a month of lengthy games with serious stories, Vacation Simulator might be a nice little reprieve.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

ps4, games, releases, june 2019, list

After years of development, the Castlevania-like Kickstarter is finally making its way to release, and hopefully, it fulfills all those hopes and wants people have of a new Castlevania. The Koji Igarashi led game follows an orphan named Miriam, who’s taken in by the Alchemists guild and subjected to experiments using crystallized demonic energy.

In all regards Bloodstained is a spiritual successor to Castlevania, using the same 2D Metroidvania style with similar methodical combat. The game also sports a heavily stylized gothic aesthetic, that looks simply gorgeous in motion.

It’s been a long wait, but hopefully, all that waiting pays off when Bloodstained hits PS4.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

ps4, games, releases, june 2019, list

Yet another all-time classic game returns with a gorgeous fresh coat of paint in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. The cult-classic racer returns in all its glory on PS4, along with a host of new content.

The first of the new additions is a huge amount of content from Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Tag Team Racing, including characters, tracks, arenas, karts, and more featured in those two games.

On top of all that, Nitro-Fueled adds online multiplayer for the first time and allows players to customize their karts, and switch them out between races. If that wasn’t enough, the game makes changes to the Adventure Mode by adding in new cinematic cutscenes, and letting players choose between a “Classic” and “Nitro-Fueled” mode, the latter of which lets you swap out karst and change difficulty.

Judgment

Arguably the biggest PS4 game of the month, Judgment comes from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the makers of the cult-hit Yakuza series. While Judgment shares a lot of DNA with the latter, it’s a detective thriller that focuses on a disgraced lawyer turned detective, named Takayuki Yagami.

The game takes place in Kamurocho, the same city in the Yakuza games, but new gameplay elements are introduced. Being a detective story you’ll have to tail suspects, search scenes for clues, present evidence, wear disguises, lockpick, and more. Of course, there’s still plenty of insane over-the-top action, and Yagami has access to two distinct fighting styles.

With a full English dub, Judgment is the best place to see what the Yakuza games are all about, set to the backdrop of a dramatic detective story.

Samurai Shodown

ps4, games, releases, june 2019, list

Another long-awaited fighting game revival, it’s been an entire decade since we’ve seen a Samurai Showdown game, with the last release being Samurai Shodown Anthology in 2009.

The new game, simply title Samurai Shodown, looks to be as big of a leap as Street Fighter IV was for that series, and it even has a similarly striking cel-shaded art style.

The reboot looks to double down on fighting mechanics, truly making a title that’s great for the eSports community, both watching and playing. We’ve seen a recent wave of fantastic fighting titles these last couple years, and hopefully, Samurai Shodown is another one we can add into that mix.

The Sinking City

June 2019 seems to be a month for detective games, as on top of Judgement we get the Lovecraftian detective story, The Sinking City. This open world title has you traveling to the quiet fishing hamlet of Oakmont, a town that has a long history with the occult.

Taking the role of Charles W. Reed, a U.S. Navy sailor turned Private Investigator, you have to unravel the mystery at the heart of Oakmont, as well as the visions that have been plaguing Charles.

Much of Oakmont is flooded and covered in water, making it difficult to traverse, but you’ll have a boat and underwater suit to aid you. You’ll have to investigate scenes to gather clues, talk to the citizens to get info, and manage your sanity as crazy things start to happen.

With the recently-released Call of Cthulhu being a bit of a disappointment, The Sinking City could be the Lovecraftian horror game we’ve all been wanting.

If you happened to miss any of the releases from the previous month, you can see all May 2019 releases here.
