As you may have figured out by now, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a lot of cool things to unlock. Weapons, outfits, items, and more are there for the player who’s willing to go the extra mile to make sure their Diamond Dogs are the best in the world. Some of the things you can develop require certain Key Items and Certificates that are scattered around the world of Metal Gear Solid V: TPP and its missions. Here’s how to get each and every one of them.
Obtained Through Side Ops
Conch Shell – The Conch Shell item is obtained by completing Side Op 113. This item is required to develop the Petrol Bomb as well as a certain Fulton upgrade.
Strangelove’s Memento – Obtain this item by completing Side Op 143. This item is required to develop the Bandana item.
Man on Fire (Corpse) – Players can obtain this item by completing Side Op 144. The Man on Fire (Corpse) is used to unlock and develop the Furicorn.
Obtained Through Missions
Children’s Reward – Complete Mission 18 to get your hands on this item that is used to unlock and develop the Water Pistol.
First Aid Manual – This item is also obtained through Mission 18, but you will have to make sure to search the Masa Village during the mission. This item is required for the Tactical Fulton D-Dog tool.
Skull’s Machete – Players will obtain this item upon completing Mission 29 in Metal Gear Solid V: TPP. It us used to unlock the Task-Arm SM.
Handkerchief – The handkerchief is required to unlock Quiet’s Sniper Wolf Uniform and is obtained by completing Mission 40.
Quiet’s Examination Report – You can acquire this item in two ways. Either Complete Mission 40, or watch Quiet’s interrogation cutscene. Either way you obtain it, it will unlock the Gray XOF uniform for development.
Star of Bethlehem – Complete Mission 46 to earn this item that will unlock the Infinity Bandana for development.
Codename: Big Boss – This item is also obtained through completing Mission 46. It unlocks the Leather Jacket uniform for development back at Mother Base.
Emmerich’s Research Notes – This item is used to unlock the Stealth Camo for development. To obtain it, you will have to watch the cutscene where Huey Emmerich is exiled.
Certificates
Master Certificate (Marking) – Mark 500 enemies with your Binoculars to get this certificate. It will unlock another upgrade that will allow you to see whether an enemy is real or a decoy in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Master Certificate (Fulton) – Fulton 500 enemies to unlock this particular item necessary for the Grade 3 Fulton upgrade.
Master Certificate (Box) – Acquire every invoice in Africa or in Afghanistan. This will provide the certificate necessary to develop the C. Box (WR).
Master Certificate (Standard) – Complete every mission (not counting hard missions). This item will be granted to the player allowing the development of the Cyborg uniform.
Master Certificate Elite – Complete all missions on Extreme, Subsistence and Total Stealth. It won’t be easy, but doing so unlocks the Naked (Silver) uniform, and the Bionic Arm uniform for development.
Grand Master Certificate (Fulton) – Fulton 1000 enemies to unlock the F-Ballista tool for development.
Grand Master Certificate (Box) – Collect all invoices in Africa and Afghanistan (you should have one area completed if you went for the Master Certificate (Box) already). This will unlock the C. Box (SMK) item for development in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Grand Master Certificate (Standard) – Complete every mission (not counting hard missions) with an S-Rank. This is one heck of a challenge, but it will allow you to unlock the Raiden uniform for development.
Grand Master Certificate (Elite) – This is the hardest certificate to obtain in Metal Gear Solid V: TPP. You will have to complete every mission on Extreme, Subsistence, and Total Stealth with an S Rank. You pretty much have to play perfectly. Doing so will unlock this item which is used to unlock the Naked (Gold) uniform.
There you have it, every special item and certificate is ready to be grabbed by the players willing to put in the work. These unlocks are pretty useful, so get out there and get collection.
