So you’ve made use of our Dragon Ball XenoVerse beginner’s guide and have waded through the early challenges. You’ve gotten yourself some attribute points, and have even amassed a small fortune along with some interesting skills. But now what? You’re up against the toughest challenges that XenoVerse has to offer, and you find yourself getting pummeled at every turn. Well, this list of advanced tips and tricks will definitely get you back into the fray with dominance. Prepare to have your skills and patience challenged, you’re in for the fight of your life against the strongest warriors that Dragon Ball XenoVerse has to throw at you.
There are some spoilers ahead. You have been warned.
Attribute Points Should Not Be Evenly Distributed
In a perfect world, you would be able to make all your stat points equal to have the most well-rounded fighter available in Dragon Ball XenoVerse. Unfortunately, doing so will put you at a huge disadvantage when it comes to some of the later battles in the game. Warriors such as Broly, Demon God Demigra, and Lord Beerus require you to be as sharp as possible if you are to have any hopes of cutting them down. For this to happen, some sacrifices must be made in order to play to your strengths.
You may want to have all your special attacks on equal footing, but why waste valuable attribute points on Ki Blast Supers if you almost never use them? It’s better to have a more focused character rather than a jack-of-all-trades when entering battle. Dragon Ball XenoVerse players will benefit more from having defined strengths rather than trying to be prepared for everything.
This doesn’t mean you should equip only one type of skill. It is always a good idea to mix things up in order to keep your opponent on their toes. But, you shouldn’t waste too much of your experience powering up those techniques you know you’re not going to rely on. It’s good to have an ace up your sleeve, but don’t go dumping too many of your eggs into that basket
If you are really worried about certain areas of your combat stats lacking then make sure to equip clothing that boosts those parameters. The proper balance between between your actual attribute points and your selected clothing will allow you to craft the perfect fighter.
Speaking of clothing…
Check the Clothing Store and Inventory Often
Sometimes, clothes are more than just a fashion statement, and Dragon Ball XenoVerse wears this belief right on its sleeve. There are literally hundreds of clothing items to choose from (although some are race specific). Between them, you have several different different stat boosts to mix and match as you see fit. This is something that can definitely be used to your advantage as you figure out what build you want to approach for your created character.
At the beginning, Dragon Ball XenoVerse only provides you with the bare essentials in your inventory and at the shop in Toki-Toki City. Over time, you will collect many new items, and at the same time, new options will become available to purchase. It is wise to check back after every few missions or so. Sometimes the only thing standing between you and victory is the right pair of pants.
Don’t Be Afraid to Spend Zeni
Zeni is the currency of the Dragon Ball universe and can be obtained in XenoVerse through pretty much any activity. Whether it’s while playing through one of the many sagas or while completing Parallel Quests, you will no doubt amass a small fortune. But, you may found yourself a bit apprehensive when it comes time to part with your hard earned gold. Well, you shouldn’t worry because Zeni is really easy to come by.
You will receive thousands of Zeni every time you complete an activity. On top of that, it’s a very good idea to sell duplicate items that you don’t need. The trade value for most items is fairly decent so you will keep your money count up. This money can then be used to buy clothing or items that will help you in your fights.
As you make progress in Dragon Ball XenoVerse, don’t be afraid to splurge that extra few hundred for the stronger item. There is no use sticking to Energy Capsule S when you can stock up on Energy Capsule L and provide yourself with much more bang for you buck. The game gives increased rewards the further you go, so buy yourself something nice for a change.
Use Your Enemies Downtime to Your Advantage
Combat in Dragon Ball XenoVerse can sometimes be a tricky thing. It’s a constant dance of attack and defense, and there is rarely an opening to gather yourself. For this reason, you need to take full advantage of these rare occurrences by knowing in advance what you want/need.
When an enemy is knocked to the ground they cannot take damage for a few seconds. The plus side is that they can’t deal out damage, either. This provides you with about 5 seconds of crucial time (more depending on your distance and if you have allies). You should use this time in one of three ways.
The first option is battle items. Battle items can be used to heal, restore ki, restore stamina, or remove debuffs. If you’re in a particularly rough battle, you may as well use these seconds to get everyone back into fighting shape. You can’t use items while being hit or while moving at high speeds, so this may be your only reprieve.
Your second option is to charge up your ki. You may not start with this ability at the beginning of Dragon Ball XenoVerse, but as mentioned in the beginner’s guide, you can definitely earn or purchase this useful skill. Have an enemy that is susceptible to your beam attacks, charge up a few blocks of your ki to have a nice burning surprise ready for when they wake up.
Your last option, and one that should always be considered, is to do nothing. You may be thinking that this is silly advice, but it can often times make the difference between success and defeat. Your stamina charges only when you’re standing either completely still or moving without your speed boost. Since stamina is required for dodging and evasive skills it is a good idea to make sure you always have at least 2 1/2 blocks stored up at all times.
Don’t Forget Your Evasive Skill!
Dragon Ball XenoVerse allows you to equip one evasive skill. These skills use stamina and are able to get you out of a tight spot with ease. They can even be used to cancel out an enemy’s ultimate attack, quickly turning the tide of battle as they are left open and you escape with most of your health in tact.
The whole canceling out the strongest attacks in the game thing makes this especially valuable. Make sure to always keep a decent store of stamina in order to use these skills when needed most. Many seem to forget that it’s available in the heat of battle and end up becoming a statistic. Don’t become a statistic.
Never Rely on AI
The AI in Dragon Ball XenoVerse is decent. They will attack, they will revive a fallen ally in battle, they will use supers and ultimates, etc. But, one thing they will also do is prove to be utterly useless when you need them most. They will block your attacks, they will knock enemies out of your range, and refuse to play the objective. The weird thing is that none of these issues seem to befall enemy teams. This will make things… difficult, to say the least.
You’re going to have to always play as if you’re on your own, especially towards the end of the game. Your allies will literally stand there as you get your ass handed to you so you may want to bulk up. When it comes down to using supers, dash at an enemy in order to earn a quick knock back. This will clear them from a crowd and stun them for a few seconds, leaving them vulnerable. If you notice one of your AI companions doing the same, just hang back and let them fight, it’s rare when they actually help you, so don’t ruin it.
In the case of quest appointed AI (companions that you don’t choose), you need to be extra vigilant. They have a knack for charging into battle knowing all too well that they stand less than no chance. Making matters more frustrating is that none of your battle items in Dragon Ball XenoVerse help quest appointed AI. This puts a lot of pressure on you, forcing you to go on the offensive. Keep a cool head and remember that you’re pretty much on your own and you’ll do just fine.
Never Just Choose Favorite Characters as Companions
Dragon Ball is a fan favorite franchise. Having favorite characters comes with the territory, so it’s to be expected. It’s easy to want to choose the fighters you’ve come to know and love over the years when choosing companions for quests in Dragon Ball XenoVerse, but that may not always be the best idea.
Just like in the anime the game is based on, some characters are notably much stronger and better equipped for combat than others. Broly is stronger than Bardock, Bardock is stronger than Hercule, and everybody is stronger than Krillin. These are facts you will just have to face. When choosing companions you will want to make sure that the fighters compliment you, and that they are powerful. You can view a basic overview of their stats and their move sets in the character selection screen, so make good use of it.
Embrace the Grind
Last, but not least, is the grind. Dragon Ball XenoVerse has a serious grind to it, and it’s something you’ll want to embrace if you ever want to complete everything the game has to offer. At times it will feel a bit tedious, but it’s all for the greater good. Characters such as Demigra’s final form, or Broly while being mind controlled are much stronger than you’d probably expect. Going at them at a low level is nothing more than animated suicide and should be avoided at all costs.
For this, you must grind. One really easy way to level up quickly and efficiently is to replay the last saga mission you completed; these give the most experience. If you happen to have a mission available that pits you against only one enemy, you can run through it quite quickly and reap all the empowering rewards. This will ensure that you are never under-leveled when going against powerful bosses.
