Uncharted 4: How Old Nathan Drake Is

Younger than he looks.
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

PlayStation gamers have been asking questions about how old Nathan Drake is since the first Uncharted game released in 2007. Naughty Dog have never officially revealed his age, or on which date he was supposed to be born, but by using quotes from the games, we can narrow Nate’s age down to one of two figures.

The most important moment that helps work out Drake’s age comes shortly after the flashback scene near the beginning of Uncharted 3. Whilst reminiscing about the past, Drake says: “I should have known when I met you that I’d be in prison within a year!”, to which Sully replies: ‘I always got you out, though.” The former then replies: “I was 15, Sully!” It isn’t clear whether he’s saying that they met when he was 15 or that he was 15 when he went to prison, but it is most likely the former. Using this information, we can work out how old he was during the events of Drake’s Deception. The flashback scene takes place 20 years prior to the main events of the game, making Drake 34 or 35 years old.

Sully also complains in that game that Nate and Elena crashed his plane 4 years ago, obviously referring to the crash in Drake’s Fortune. This implies that the first three games took place in real time with two years between Uncharted 1 and 2, and two years between 2 and 3, making Nate 30/31, 32/33, and 34/35 in the respective games.

However, the fourth game doesn’t follow this trend, with the in-game time between Drake’s Deception and A Thief’s End being three years (not five years as in real-time), according to Naughty Dog. That would make Nathan Drake 37 or 38 in Uncharted 4, depending on when his birthday falls in the calendar year. Maybe he’s going grey before his time.
