Dark Souls III: How to Get Solaire of Astora’s Armor

Praise the sun!
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

After a few hours with Dark Souls III, it’s easy to notice the comparisons and callbacks to the game that started it all. Firelink Shrine, Crystal Lizards, and Andre of Astora to name a few.

However, did you know that you can also acquire the armor of everyone’s favourite Knight of Sunlight, Solaire? Though he may not be present in the game beyond the Warriors of Sunlight covenant, you can certainly cosplay as him and praise the sun to your hearts content. Here’s how.

Step 1: The Tower Key

Dark Souls III

First off, you’re going to need to unlock the tower area of Firelink Shrine. You can find this area by going up the right staircase as you enter the shrine, then through the arches. The door is currently locked, but there is a way to fix that.

The Shrine Handmaid (old lady in the chair on the way to the blacksmith) sells the tower key for the hefty price of 20,000 souls. But trust us, this is an investment that is worth your time as it unlocks a variety of useful items, including an Estus Shard and the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring.

Once you’ve saved up the souls, unlock the door and ascend the tower. There are a wealth of items available to you now but for what we want, drop down onto the roof of Firelink Shrine from the bridge and go over to the crow’s nest. Yep, just like the other games in the Souls series, there is a crow with an annoying voice that you can trade items with.

Step 2: Trading items with the Crow

Dark Souls 3

Before we can be grossly incandescent, there are a few hoops to jump through, and we’re going to need some items to leave in the crow’s nest to be traded for Solaire’s armor. I’ll list the items in the set and the item you need to trade for it side by side, along with a little description below to show you how to get it.

Iron Helm – Lightning Urn

  • Greirat (the vendor locked in a cell in the High Wall Of Lothric) will sell Lightning Urn’s later in the game after sending him on scavenger hunts. Or you can find them at the entrance to Lothric Castle in the late game by jumping off the bridge.

Armor of The Sun – Siegbrau

  • You acquire this pint of brew from Siegward of Catarina, Dark Souls III’s very own onion knight. He is located in the tower with the bowman shooting down upon you in the Undead Settlement. Once you’ve found him and have spoken with him, ride the elevator up and roll out of it to a hidden ledge where Siegward will be sitting. Talk to him again and drop down to fight the fire demon and he will come running to your aid. Defeat the beast and he will give you his special mug of beer.

Iron Bracelets – Homeward Bone

  • This item is a Dark Souls staple, and you should have some in your inventory through your travels. If not, grab some off the same maiden that you bought the Tower Key from earlier.

Iron Leggings – Seed of a Tree of Giants

  • Another item hailing from Dark Souls II, you can find this one at the petrified tree just next to the entrance to the aforementioned tower which we opened. To make the seed drop you need to have been invaded 10 times, so have fun with that.

Step 3: Praising the Sun

Dark Souls III

Once you’ve gotten the items, all you need to do is return to the roof of Firelink Shrine. One by one, go into your inventory and select the item, choosing to leave it on the ground in the nest. Once done, the crow will chirp and replace it with a piece from Solaire’s set.

That’s it, now you can cosplay as everyone’s favorite Souls character in Dark Souls III! Praise the sun!
