The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening is a one-to-one remake of the classic Game Boy title, but with some added bells and whistles to make it feel more modern, like an extra difficulty mode. In case you were wondering, here’s how to change difficulty in Zelda Links Awakening.
Changing Difficulty in Zelda Link’s Awakening
Nintendo has recently begun to start implementing new difficulty modes in Zelda games. Wind Waker HD on the Wii U had a type of hero mode, as well as the Twilight Princess remaster.
If you’re a hardcore Zelda fan and are looking for a harder challenge or a way to replay the game a second time with some added difficulty, hero mode is the way to go, and you’ll be happy to know that the mode is back in Zelda Link’s Awakening too.
When you first start up a new game in Link’s Awakening, you will be asked whether you want to play in normal difficulty mode or hero mode.
Normal mode is just the regular difficulty that the game offers, giving players a good amount of challenge without the game being too difficult.
Hero mode, on the other hand, makes it so that Link takes double damage from any attack. There are also no heart drops from enemies, nor grass, so the only way to heal would be to collect a heart piece or by finding a fairy.
You actually can’t change the difficulty during the game, so you have to stick with the same mode for the entire game, unless you start a new file of course.
To sum things up:
- You can only change the difficulty mode at the start of a new file.
- You can’t change it during your playthrough.
- Hero mode and Normal mode are your two options.
