Master Sword – The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

What’s a Zelda game without the Master Sword? If you said “not a Zelda game at all” you’d be right, so there was no way it would be left out of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This time around, the legendary weapon is a completely optional item you can obtain, and you can even locate it right from the beginning if you want to make a beeline for it. It sits, nestled in stone like Excalibur from Arthurian Legend. And, just like in those legends, it can only be pulled by a person it deems worthy.

What happens if you try to pull it without being worthy? Normally, situations like this would just tell you to try again later you weakling. But this is the Master Sword, so it kills you. Yup, trying to take the Master Sword without making the necessary preparations leads to a Game Over screen.

The sword is located to the southeast of the Great Hyrule Forest. North of Hyrule Castle, through the Lost Woods which can be tricky to get through. To make your way through the woods, find the entrance near the Woodland Tower then follow the torches until you reach the first creepy tree with a face. From this point on, follow the direction that trees with faces are pointing. If you don’t, you’ll be returned to the first creepy tree to try again. At the other end is the Korok Forest, where you can walk straight and find the spot where the Master Sword is nestled.

Here’s an image of the Master Sword’s location on the map:

The Master Sword is unbreakable, though it does need to be charged from time to time by putting it away. It will fire a beam if thrown when at full health, and glows when used against enemies weak to its power (which causes it to deal double damage). That’s one seriously great weapon.

Now it’s time to pull the Master Sword. To do so you need 13 Hearts, and these must be real hearts. Any that are present due to a buff from food or any other item will not count and you will die. If you have 13 Hearts – which will require you earning a lot of Spirit Orbs since Hearts cost 4 orbs each – go and pull the best weapon in the game. Now nothing can stand in your way in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

That’s all you need to do to get the Master Sword in Link’s latest adventure. For more on Breath of the Wild, be sure to check out our wiki.
