Xbox Series X: How to Quick Resume

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Quick Resume is one of the best new features of the Xbox Series X. For those unfamiliar, Quick Resume allows players to pick up where they left off in their game in the blink of an eye, even if you’ve played something else in the time in between. In this guide, we’ll be running you how Xbox Series X’s Quick Resume feature works, so you can make the most of it from day one.

The best way to get familiar with Quick Resume is by checking out the handy tech demo video that Xbox has put up on its YouTube channel, embedded below.

As you can see, the Quick Resume feature allows you to dive right back into where you were in a game, before seamlessly switching to another and instantly being loaded back into the point you were in that game. Change your mind and want to play that first game again? You’ll be thrown straight back to where you were in an instant. In other words, you can switch games incredibly quickly!

How to Quick Resume on Xbox Series X

To Quick Resume, press the Home button on your controller and select another app. You can choose any app from your My Games and Apps, your pins, or any of the games or apps that appear on your home screen.

Your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S will switch over to the app you wanted to open. If you want to then switch back to the first game or app you were using, press the home button on your Xbox controller and select it again.

You’ll then be almost instantaneously thrown back into the first game you were playing.

In other words, you don’t have to do anything special to use Quick Resume. The feature is baked-in to your Xbox Series X experience. You just need to sit back and enjoy the lack of loading times.

How Many Games Can Quick Resume Suspend at Once?

The Xbox Series X’s Quick Resume can suspend up to six games at any time. However, this may vary depending on how big and complex the games are.

Currently, there’s no way to manage which games or apps Quick Resume will suspend. A task manager feature of sorts would be a great option to have further down the line.
