Stardew Valley Emily Gifting Guide and Friendship Optimization

How to be the best of friends!

To build a relationship with Emily in Stardew Valley, focus on gifting her preferred gemstones like Amethyst and Aquamarine, along with artisan goods such as Cloth and Wool. Presenting these items twice a week, particularly on her Spring 27 birthday, is the fastest way to maximize her friendship levels and unlock unique rewards.

Loved and Liked Gifts

Emily has an eclectic set of tastes that reflect her spiritual and creative personality. While standard gems are highly reliable, players looking for immediate value should look to late-game additions or universal items to speed up their relationship track. For instance, Stardrop Tea represents a major friendship skip because it does not count toward the daily or weekly gift limits and can be given repeatedly on the same day.

For late-game players, the Parrot Egg trinket is another excellent loved item that is unlocked only after claiming Combat Mastery from the Mastery Cave. This trinket drops randomly from monsters, crates, and chests in the Mines and Skull Cavern, and its level can be re-rolled on an Anvil using three Iridium Bars once total farm earnings exceed 750,000g.

To optimize daily gifting runs and efficiently track down her favorite items, players can reference the key parameters of her preferred gifts.

Emily’s Daily Schedule and Location

Emily resides at 2 Willow Lane, a blue house located directly south of the Pelican Town square, right next to Jodi’s house. She works part-time at the Stardrop Saloon, located in the center of town. To check her current location or verify if she has been talked to on a given day, open the game menu by pressing E or Escape, click on the social tab represented by a red heart icon, and look for a green checkmark next to her portrait.

Her schedule changes based on weather, community upgrades, and active festivals:

  • Standard Day: She remains in her bedroom until 12:00 PM, stands in the living room until 3:30 PM, and then works behind the bar at the Stardrop Saloon until 12:30 AM.
  • Tuesday: She leaves home at 10:00 AM to attend aerobics class at Pierre’s General Store, returning to work at the Saloon from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.
  • Friday (Community Center Restored): She stands in the Crafts Room of the restored Community Center from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, then works at the Saloon until 12:30 AM.
  • Spring 15, 16, and 17: She leaves home at 8:00 AM to travel to the Calico Desert for the Desert Festival, where she stands at her Outfit Services booth until 12:30 AM.
  • Fall 15: She leaves home at 10:30 AM to travel to the Calico Desert to visit her friend Sandy at the Oasis for her birthday.
  • Winter 11: She visits Harvey’s Clinic for her checkup, waiting in the waiting room from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, moving to the exam room until 4:00 PM, and working at the Saloon afterward.

Marriage and the Mermaid’s Pendant

Once players reach 8 hearts with Emily, they can purchase a Bouquet from Pierre’s General Store to unlock romantic progression. Upon reaching 10 hearts, players can propose using the Mermaid’s Pendant. To secure this item, players must meet specific requirements and navigate to the right landmarks:

  • Purchase the first farmhouse upgrade from Robin for 10,000g and 450 Wood to unlock the kitchen.
  • Collect exactly 300 Wood to repair the broken wooden bridge on the eastern side of the Pelican Town beach.
  • Cross the repaired bridge to the eastern shoreline past the tidal pools.
  • Locate the Old Mariner, who stands on the shoreline only on rainy days and sells the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000g. He will not appear during Winter unless a Rain Totem is activated.

Saying Hello Quest and Bug Mitigation

Once the player completes the initial Introductions story quest, Emily can post a rare daily socializing quest called Saying Hello on the bulletin board outside Pierre’s General Store. The objective is to greet all 28 Pelican Town residents within a strict two-day limit. To track quest progress, open the quest journal by pressing the hotkey F or clicking the yellow exclamation point icon at the bottom of the date and time display in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Players must follow these steps to avoid locking themselves out of quest progress:

  • Avoid talking to any townspeople on Day 1 before accepting the quest from the bulletin board. If an NPC is spoken to before the quest is accepted, the game will not count that interaction toward the tracker, forcing you to find and speak to them again on Day 2 to register their greeting.
  • Do not look for the Wizard, Krobus, the Dwarf, Sandy, or Leo, as the game’s code explicitly excludes them from the 28-resident requirement. If playing in Year 1, Kent is also excluded since he does not arrive in Pelican Town until Year 2.
  • If playing on PC and stuck at 27/28 on Day 2, open the PC save file in a text editor and search for the XML tag WhoToGreet to instantly see the internal name of the missing resident.
  • Greet Emily herself, as she is included in the 28-resident target list.

Completing this quest successfully awards 100 friendship points with every town resident.

Rock Rejuvenation Special Order

This Special Order is accepted from the wooden board located directly outside Mayor Lewis’s house. To execute this task:

  • Gather exactly 1x Ruby, 1x Emerald, 1x Amethyst, 1x Jade, and 1x Topaz.
  • These gems must be mined or obtained from nodes after the quest has been accepted; items already stored in chests will not update the quest tracker. Run floors 80-120 of the standard Mines or run the Skull Cavern to quickly farm these gem nodes.
  • Navigate to 2 Willow Lane and place the five gems into the donation box located inside Emily’s house.

Completing this non-repeatable quest awards 1,000g and a personal Sewing Machine delivered directly to the player’s farmhouse.

Fourteen Heart Marriage Quest and Errand for Your Wife

After marrying Emily and reaching a 14-heart relationship level, exit the player farmhouse on a sunny morning between 6:00 AM and 8:20 AM to trigger the quest. Emily will ask for 200 pieces of Fiber.

To complete this quest:

  • Collect 200 Fiber by cutting weeds with the Scythe on floors 21-29 or floor 81 of the Mines, or by growing Fiber Seeds.
  • Deliver the 200 Fiber directly to Emily.
  • Wait exactly three days, then enter the player farmhouse between 8:00 PM and midnight.

This triggers a cutscene where Emily awards a custom magic outfit consisting of Emily’s Magic Hat, Emily’s Magic Shirt, Genie Pants, and Emily’s Magic Boots, which provide +4 Defense and +4 Immunity.

If the Magic Boots are ever discarded or lost:

  • Navigate to the far northwest corner of Cindersap Forest, north of the Wizard’s Tower.
  • Break the large fallen log blocking the entrance using a Steel Axe or higher to enter the Secret Woods.
  • Purchase a replacement pair of Magic Boots for 10,000g from the Lost Items Shop.

Emily’s Outfit Services and Seed Manipulation

During the annual Desert Festival on Spring 15, 16, and 17, Emily and Sandy run an Outfit Services booth in the Calico Desert. This service changes the player’s clothes to a custom, themed outfit. However, this outfit selection is entirely predetermined by a seeded random number generator based on the save file’s unique ID and the current year.

Players can exploit the game’s duplicate-prevention code to bypass undesirable outcomes:

  • To avoid receiving outfits like the Trash Can or Clown sets, wear an item of clothing from that specific outfit when entering the booth. The game checks your active shirt ID, and if it matches the seeded outfit, it is forced to skip that option and roll the next available outfit in the queue.
  • To maximize the pool of available outfits and avoid duplicate-prevention locks, enter the booth completely undressed.
  • On Nintendo Switch, the randomizer increments every two seed numbers, meaning seeds 40 and 41 produce identical outfits. Multiplayer hosts can hot-swap their active seeds using this two-digit interval to target rare items like the Laurel Wreath Crown or the Dark Ballcap.
