After a few months in closed beta, Riot Games has finally fully released Valorant for everyone to jump in. Influenced by PC centric shooters like Counter Strike and hero shooters like Overwatch, it’s primed to be the next hit. In case you’re not comfortable using a keyboard and mouse to play, here’s what we know about Valorant controller support.
As of June 2020, Valorant is only on PC, as most of Riot’s games are, so it’s designed to be used with a keyboard and mouse. However, for people who are new to PC gaming, playing with a controller might be the only option that they want to use.
Valorant Controller Support
In short, there is no real controller support for Valorant at the moment. You can use some gamepads, but they won’t work as they would if you were playing a shooter on console.
Speaking during a DrLupo stream, the game’s executive producer, Anna Donlon, and the game’s director, Joe Ziegler confirmed there is “some level” of controller support, but that it’s not really the recommended way to play.
To start, there is no aim assist for controllers built into the game, meaning you’re going to really struggle to compete with keyboard and mouse players because you won’t be able to turn as quickly to face people or aim as precisely.
To be honest, if you’re not planning on playing Valorant with keyboard and mouse, it would be best to think again. The level on controller support that there is will not be enough for you to really enjoy the game. It’s best to keep your fingers crossed that the game will come to consoles some time in the future.
