How Long Is Valkyria Chronicles 4?
It’s been eight years since the release of a proper Valkyria Chronicles game, with the last one being Valkyria Chronicles 2 on the PSP in 2010. Now after last year’s spinoff Valkyria Revolution, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a return to form for the strategy series, adding a host of changes and additions into the classic strategy systems of the series. Valkyria Chronicles 4 is set during the same time period as the first game and tells the story of Claude Wallace, the commander of Squad-E in the Federation military. With a fresh new entry in the series, the usual question of just how long it will take you arises.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is pretty comparable in length to the first game, if not a little longer. The game is made up of a number of main chapters, split between cutscenes, story scenes, and battle. At the same time there are Skirmish battles you can replay for experience and money, and Squad Stories you can unlock that flesh out your unit’s personality and background. If you’re just mainlining the story you’re probably looking at somewhere between 30-40 hours, depending on the difficulty and speed you play through. Like the first game in the series, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is made up of 18 different chapters, with multiple Interludes that contain optional story scenes to watch. The aforementioned Squad Stories also essentially make up additional smaller chapters.
Of course, if you plan on doing side content that time is looking more like 45-60 hours, depending on how much you want to do. Our own playthough of Valkyria Chronicles 4 lasted 46 hours, with us playing taking a good amount of time to play through squad stories and skirmishes.
