How to Emote in Valheim

Emoting in Valheim isn’t particularly tricky, but it does require a few more steps than in other games. For one thing, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the different commands, and how to input them correctly.

One common misconception we’re seeing a lot is that players believe they should press F5 to open the command menu, but this isn’t quite right. Emotes are actually input by opening the chat menu, which is done by pressing Enter.

With the chat now open, it’s just a case of correctly typing the emote you want to use.

All Emotes in Valheim

There are seven emotes in Valheim, which we’ve listed below. Remember that you must put a forward slash (/) before each command, as shown in the above picture.

  • sit
  • wave
  • challenge
  • cheer
  • nonono
  • thumbsup
  • point

Those are the only emotes available right now but do keep in mind that Valheim is in Early Access and the developers are likely to add more content moving forward. That may or may not include a more robust emote system at some point further down the line. We’ll keep you posted.

For now, that’s everything there is to know about how to emote in Valheim.
