Hunt the Tempered Monsters

5 Things to Do After Beating Monster Hunter World

After beating the main story in Monster Hunter World, you’re essentially free to do whatever you want in the game. There isn’t a wealth of post game content here like you might expect, but you will have the chance to encounter even more powerful beasts known as Tempered monsters. These are basically high-powered monsters with raised stats that can decimate you in a couple of hits.

At the time of writing, it’s still not entirely clear how to unlock the appearances of these Tempered monsters exactly. We’ve managed to encounter one during a high-rank investigation by randomly discovering its tracks out in the world. Once you find its tracks, collect all of them to unlock even more information about the monster itself, and you’ll be able to track it properly and fight it. Tempered monsters are tough, but they can drop materials that are used for something called augmenting, which is a way for you to add better upgrades to your existing equipment.

Raise Your Hunter Rank

Speaking of Tempered monsters, it’s very likely that their appearance is tied to your Hunter rank in Monster Hunter World. The higher your rank is, the more high-rank investigations you’ll be able to do when you’re out on an expedition, and this will add to your chances of discovering new monster tracks. Once you’ve cleared the main story, we suggest increasing your Hunter rank as much as possible by completing all the optional quests you might’ve skipped before.

Optional quests often send you out to do a variety of different things like capturing monsters that you’ve only slain before, and some quests might even allow you to fight a monster you didn’t get to see during Monster Hunter World’s main story. Not only that, first-time completion of some optional quests will unlock new options available at the resource center, such as food variety at the canteen and more cultivation slots with the botanist. Make sure to talk to all the resource center NPCs with an exclamation point over their heads to get more optional quests.

Grind for that Perfect Armor Set

Because Monster Hunter World’s post game content isn’t all that robust at the moment, you might want to dedicate some time towards getting materials for crafting your favorite armor sets. Every monster drops different materials that give you new armor options, so you should take the time to see which ones have perks that suit your play style after beating the main story. While you might’ve been tempted to just funnel through all the main assignments at first, beating Monster Hunter World allows you to slow down and analyze all the different armor properties.

Try experimenting with armor pieces from different sets to craft a look that you’d like to see on your character, or simply set a goal for yourself to try to collect all of the armor sets available in the game. Every set has their own strengths and weaknesses, so there’s no harm in trying to get as much armor as possible for different occasions and challenges.

Arena Quests

If you’re not a fan of grinding out materials, Monster Hunter World provides more optional content in the form of arena quests that are available at the Gathering Hub. The arena is where you can battle all of the monsters you’ve captured previously, but you’re only allowed to choose from a small number of equipment presets. This will challenge you to adapt to different play styles presented in Monster Hunter World, and it’s also a nice way to revisit previous fights with a twist.

The arena quests can be done solo or in co-op, and the idea here is that you have to try to beat the monster as fast as possible to get a better score and ranking. Other players will be able to try to beat your time, and this is a pretty good way to practice tactics against a variety of different monsters and get better at the game in a general sense.

Play How You Like

Online multiplayer serves as the core of the Monster Hunter World experience. If you have absolutely nothing else to pursue in the game, there’s always fun to be had in helping out other players get through the main assignments and optional quests. And if you are trying to grind for materials, that process is always a lot more fun if you’re doing it with other hunters. Consider forming a squad so you can play with a core group of people. Or if you’ve had enough of the multiplayer stuff, set new challenges for yourself by fighting every monster solo, and try to get a better quest completion time.

Capcom has already confirmed that they will be adding timed events and investigations to Monster Hunter World after its release, so even if you don’t have any new content to chew through now, there will always be more later on.
