Throughout your time in The Medium, you’ll come across a bunch of things that block your path to the next objective. Sometimes they’re bits of rubble, other times they’re gruesome walls of skin. You can’t punch your way through these, though, instead you’ll need to get the Razor Blade key item. In this guide, we’ll talk you through how to get the Razor Blade and cut through skin walls in The Medium.
Getting the Razor Blade
The good news is you can’t miss picking up the Razor Blade. This is unlocked naturally as you try to find Sadness — the little girl in Niwa — on the second floor of the hotel.
Once you’ve found the odd key to open the door down the hallway on the second floor, drop down onto the floor below through the hole. Interact with the magazine on the side to reconstruct the memory shard, and then go out onto the balcony.
Press and hold B to have an ‘out of body experience.’ This allows you to control Marianne only in the spirit world, where you can navigate across the broken ledge. Once you’ve crossed this, head inside the building again.
Go around the back side of the room you enter, and you’ll find a wall you can look through. This will trigger a short cutscene of blood running towards the door and… a jump scare.
After the jump scare, head through the door in front of you and drain the bath of blood. At the bottom, you’ll find the Razor Blade in The Medium.
The Razor Blade is a key item that you’ll be able to use throughout your journey to cut through any skin walls in The Medium you come across.
How to Cut Through Skin Walls in The Medium
Walk over to a skin wall and look to the top of it. You should be given an ‘A’ button prompt.
Press this and select the Razor Blade from your inventory.
Now use the left analog stick to cut down the center of the skin. It sometimes takes a while, as this is tough, old skin, but you’ll get there eventually.
