The Fisherman – Fishing Planet is finally here, bringing with it the most authentic simulated fishing experience that money can buy. One of the aspects of that realism is the various Reeling Techniques that can be performed to catch various species of fish. We have compiled a guide on how to perform each of the Reeling Techniques so that you can add them to your arsenal in order to go for that big catch. Reeling – A General Explanation

Reels typically have 5 different types of speeds: one through four, and a reverse. When catching a fish, your reel speed will automatically go to speed four. You can change this on the fly by pressing up or down on the D-Pad, or by using your mouse wheel if playing on PC.

Keep in mind that when performing any of the reeling techniques below, you can confirm that you are doing them correctly by looking at the UI on the right side of the screen.

The type of Reeling Technique you are currently performing will show up in a white text, confirming that you are doing them correctly. It will also come along with one to three white dots, indicating how successful you are performing them and how reliable they are for catching fish (one is low, two is medium, three is high).

Straight Retrieval

This is the most basic form of reeling one can perform. Cast out into the water using your rod and reel in your hook at a speed of three by pressing up or down on the D-Pad while you reel in. Be sure to keep your rod is pointing straight out to the water.

Straight Slow Retrieval

This is very similar to the straight retrieval, however, instead of doing this at a speed of three, set your reel to speed of one or two (depending on the reel and lure).

Keep your rod straight towards your hook and keep it parallel to the water. This will change the Straight Retrieval to a Straight Slow.

This is arguably one of the easiest to perform in terms of The Fisherman – Fishing Planet Reeling Techniques.

Stop & Go Reeling Technique

Cast your lure out into the water and let it sink to the bottom of the water. You can confirm it has completely sunk by watching the lure indicator on the right-hand side of the screen.

Once it hits the floor, reel in for 2-3 meters, then stop for a second. Then reel in for another 2-3 meters and stop for another second. Repeat this process until you catch a fish.

If you are noticing that the UI is labeling this technique as a Lift & Drop, be sure to reel in a bit faster and do not let the lure sink to the ground after the initial cast.

Twitch Technique

The Twitch Retrieval Technique is performed by casting your lure out into the water, turning your character to the right of left (so that the rod has a slight bend in it), and tapping the reel button every second or so.

Don’t let your lure sink to the bottom, otherwise, the game may mistake this for a Stop & Go technique. If this is the case, try tapping your reel button quicker, forcing the lure to float in the middle or top of the water.

This technique is all about the angle, so make sure you find a good spot and shoot for two or three on the dot indicator located on the right side of the screen.

Lift & Drop Technique

The Lift & Drop Reeling Technique is a unique take on the Stop & Go. First, cast your lure out and let it sink to the bottom. Once that is complete, reel in and wait.

Rather than pulling the reel in every second or so like the Stop & Go, you want to make sure the lure sinks to the bottom again before performing another reeling action.

If you are still struggling to properly perform this, try changing your reel speed to different settings until the UI indicates the Lift & Drop.
