You won’t get very far in The Sims 4 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One if you don’t know how to save and auto-save regularly, so we’re here to walk you through the process until you’ve got it down.
How to Save in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One
The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One has a few different options you can use to save your game, helping to ensure you don’t lose any progress from a crash, glitch or poorly timed power-down of your console.
The first method is to save your game manually. You can do this by pressing the Options or Menu button on PS4 or Xbox One respectively. This will open up the pause menu, and the Save option will be at the top of the list of options you can select from it.
Choose the Save option, and then you’ll have the option to save your game to one of five slots. Choose whichever slot you want to save your game to, and after a few seconds, it should be successfully stored.

So, to recap how to save the Sims 4 manually on PS4 and Xbox One:
- Press the Options or Menu button.
This will bring you to the Pause menu.
- Select the Save option from the drop-down list.
You can save your game from the Save menu.
- Select the slot you wish to save your game to.
There are five slots total you can choose from, and the save should be recorded after a minute or so.
How to Trigger an Auto-Save
However, should the manual save option not work for whatever reason, there is a method for triggering an auto-save in The Sims 4 on PS4 and Xbox One.
As you play, the game will auto-save at certain points, creating a temporary file for the game to load from should anything occur with the manual save. These range from swapping between Worlds or exiting to the main menu.
However, the most reliable way to trigger an auto-save is to pause the game by pressing the Options or Menu button, select the Manage Worlds option, and then exit to the Worlds screen without saving the game. Then, from the Worlds screen, hit the Options or Menu button again and select the Exit to Main Menu option.
This will bring you to the main menu and create a temporary auto-save of the game from before you exited to the Manage Worlds screen.
This can be repeated as many times as you need, but it should be noted that the auto-save is not a hard save. Once it’s loaded, it can’t be reloaded.
