What the Preload & Unlock Times Are for Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider puts Lara in a pretty tough position. She’s got to go about saving the world from a Mayan apocalypse, all the while fighting off the evil forces that want to stop her from completing her mission. There will be plenty of bad guys to shoot, or stealthily take down, and many, many challenging ancient puzzles that Lara will need to navigate carefully. It’s one of the biggest games of 2018’s peak season, and so it’s no surprise that some player may be wondering exactly what the preload and unlock times are for Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

It seems to be that preload times vary depending on what version of the game you’re picking up. For example, if you’re getting the Digital Deluxe, Digital Croft, or Croft editions of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you’ll be able to preload the game as of today on all platforms.

These editions of Shadow of the Tomb Raider also have earlier unlock times than the standard edition, unlocking on Sept. 12.

For those players who are just picking up the standard edition of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you’ll have to wait a little longer for the preload, as this will go live as of Sept. 12. Due to the lack of an early access unlock time, the standard edition will subsequently unlock on the official release date of Sept. 14.

It’s worth noting here, however, that as early as last week, some Xbox One users had noted that Shadow of the Tomb Raider had begun its preload on their system. Whether this was a mistake, or the preload simply went live on Xbox One earlier than other platforms remains to be seen. However, if you’ve pre-ordered your copy of Shadow of the Tomb Raider already, it might just be best to check your system’s downloads list, just in case things have kicked off a little earlier.

And there you have the preload and unlock times for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. For more tips, tricks, and information on the game, be sure to check out our comprehensive wiki.
