How to Play Co-Op Multiplayer in Secret of Mana Remake

Recommended Videos

JRPG classic Secret of Mana has finally gotten itself a remake, complete with everything devoted fans have come to expect from the franchise after nearly 25 years since its inception. Though there are some improvements made, a lot of neat features from the original remain untouched, including Secret of Mana’s inclusion of local co-op multiplayer functionality.

In order to access co-op and have your friends join in on all the fun to be had in Secret of Mana, you’ll need to first get roughly 10 to 15 minutes into the game solo with your first party member, Randi. When you approach the Water Palace for the first time, go and talk to the third solider on the left twice to trigger a cutscene that will lead you to encounter your second party member, Primm.

After Primm’s agreed to join Randi on his quest for redemption, pause the game and select the multiplayer option from the menu screen. Make sure that a second controller is already set up before doing so, lest the game won’t read another DualShock 4 in the vicinity. Wait a second or two and voila! A second player should now be able to control Primm.

Should you have another person that wants to join in, you’ll have to play the Secret of Mana remake roughly 30 to 40 minutes more to reach the Dwarf Village. Here you’ll meet the mischievous Popoi and have him join your party as per the Dwarf Elder’s suggestion. Simply repeat the step above to have another friend added for some co-op multiplayer action.

Don’t worry – neither Primm nor Popoi are missable party members, meaning you’ll unlock the chance to utilize them in-game through natural progression. Gaining access to Popoi is just a little more straightforward than gaining access to Primm.
