How to Beat Molded
There will be some story spoilers ahead in order to describe the enemies and how to defeat them. Read ahead at your own risk.
The Molded are the basic enemies in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. They aren’t exactly zombies, although some are formed from dead humans. Â They’re created when the virus completely takes over a body, controlling its every move and basically making the person a murderous puppet. There are four types you’ll come across in the game : normal, clawed, crawler, bloated. The bloated variant is more of a mini-boss type that you’ll only see a few times in the game.
If you’d rather avoid these enemies you have two advantages. With the exception of the crawler, they’re incredibly slow. Yes they will pick up the pace when they spot you, but you can outrun and avoid their attacks as long as you don’t panic. The second advantage is that they can’t open doors. So you can just close the door behind you and they’ll give up the chase. If you want to kill them, however, you can take out each type relatively easy.
Normal – The slowest and weakest of the bunch (don’t underestimate them on Madhouse difficulty, though). A few shots to the head with a handgun, or a single shotgun blast takes these out with ease. Since they’re slow you can even rely on your knife to defeat them on Easy. Just block after every couple of swings. It takes way more hits on Normal difficulty, and you shouldn’t even try on Madhouse.
Clawed –Â These look like normal molded, only they have one larger sharp hand and can take a bit more punishment. If you’re in a tight spot, shoot the arm off first to limit their attack capabilities. After that, they’re dealt with just like the normal guys.
Crawlers –Â These little buggers are fast and stay low to the ground. They attack your legs or use leaping attacks to do massive damage and scare the crap out of you. Shotguns are your best bet, as a single shot to the head can take one out, and it’s difficult to hit their smaller skulls with a pistol. Neuro Rounds from the grenade launcher are very useful here as well, as they can paralyze infected, making it easier to shoot them.
Bloated –Â These are just large, fat molded that vomit up mold, blood, and pus. They take a lot of damage but are incredibly slow, so just keep moving around as you shoot them in the head. Fire seems to stun them a bit as well, so if you have a Burner, light them up then switch to another gun. Remote Bombs are highly effective against this type, too. Just keep in mind, when you take the Bloated down, move away. They explode a few seconds after dying.
How to Beat Mia Winters
Mia Winters is your sometimes wife, sometimes murderous nightmare in Resident Evil 7. She’s the first enemy you actually face in the game, although she’s not in control of herself – even though we’d totally get why you’d still be pissed that she cut of your hand. She was infected with a new biological weapon and that has her under the control of a powerful, and vicious, E-Series weapon.
Unlike most enemy encounters, though, she is central to the story and cannot be found randomly while exploring. She won’t chase you ever, and is not locked to a specific part of the house. This means she is unavoidable, but is quite easy to beat.
The only mandatory fight against her is in the prologue. Round one has you attack her face with a handaxe, making sure to block her blade attacks. Round two gives you a pistol to shoot her a few times in the face with.
Depending on which ending you go for, you will have to face her once more, but it’s a simple fight that just has you attack her with a crowbar.Â
Jack Baker
You know how the Resident Evil series just loves those enemies who don’t die? Resident Evil 7 gets in on the action with Jack Baker, the patriarch of the Baker clan. He’s an imposing figure who relies on brute strength rather than firearms to crush any opposition to him and his family. He can be found roaming around the Baker home at several points in the story, and is the target in three different boss encounters.
When he’s roaming the house, he’s not in “boss mode,” meaning you can’t kill him. He’s strong, but you can outrun him and hide until he returns to what he was doing (which is looking for you elsewhere). The best thing to do is lead him in the opposite direction you want to go, then run to your destination.
The three times you have to fight him are in the garage (here’s a handy guide), the basement (check out the guide), and you’ll go toe to toe with his mutated form which is easily the toughest boss in the game. Each fight is completely different making for an interesting undying enemy for the first two-thirds of the game.Â
How to Beat Marguerite Baker
Although Jack has the toughest boss in Resident Evil 7, Marguerite is definitely the creepiest. She always looks rotted and maniacal, while the other members of the family seem somewhat normal until you piss them off. She keeps a host of insects nearby and she roams the old house looking for anyone trying to escape. She’s vicious, temperamental, and possibly the most disgusting enemy you’ll face in the entire game.
Avoiding her will require you staying low and listening out for her, while also looking for the telltale glow of her lantern. She moves through the house slowly, but once she spots you she picks up speed quickly. She doesn’t always attack as soon as you enter a room though. If she happens to be near a door you open, she’ll startle you then slam it shut, causing tons of spiders to appear. If you do happen to pull her attention and can’t easily get away, your best friends are fire and a shotgun. She can take quite a beating, so you’ll need to hit her with everything you’ve got if you want to send her running.
As far as her boss encounter goes, you’ll need fire. It’s the easiest way to take out Marguerite and the bugs she summons to her aid. Also bring a shotgun to deal serious close range damage if she works her way into your personal space. Check out this guide of her boss fight.Â
Eveline
Eveline is at the center of Resident Evil 7’s horror and is the reason you have so many enemies to fight in the game. She was created by a mysterious corporation as a living weapon, capable of taking control of enemy forces (or anyone else) as well as create an unkillable army. Unfortunately, this young girl is conditioned to believe her handlers are family, and when she begins to lose her mind she starts to desire a large family that will never leave her. This leads her to crash the tanker that was transporting her, infect Mia, and take over the Baker family while having them kidnap other humans she can try to bring into the fold.
You don’t see this little girl very often, and when you do it’s always a hallucination. However, you do actually find yourself near her physical body quite often. It turns out that the old lady who appeared to be the grandma of the Baker family was actually Eveline. She requires maintenance injections to stay stable, and without them she ages rapidly (25x the normal rate) and becomes psychotic.
There’s no avoiding Eveline, but you do have to fight her at the very end, which we’ve guided for you here.
