Resident Evil 2 originally released on the PS1 all the way back in 1998. Now remade for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, some players may be wondering if there are some old school ‘easter eggs’ or cheat codes to use to help them out when exploring Raccoon City Police Department. Here’s what you need to know about cheats in Resident Evil 2.
Let’s skip to what you really want to know. Sadly, there are no cheats in Resident Evil 2 remake. While there are a number of safe combinations that don’t change each time you start a new game, essentially enabling you to learn these and gain access to powerful items and weapons with ease, there aren’t any cheat codes you’ll have to enter.
What is worth noting here, however, is that it is possible to unlock the Samurai Edge (Original Model) handgun in Resident Evil 2 if you’re good enough. It gives you infinite ammo, which should allow you to cruise through most parts of the game.
To get this incredibly handy weapon, you’ll need to get an S rank on any of the scenarios. This means beating either Leon or Claire’s first story, or by completing either of their B scenarios and achieving an S rank, too. From what we’ve played so far, it looks like your clear time is the only thing that matters for getting an S rank. Assuming you’re playing on Standard difficulty, you’ll need to clear a character’s 1st run in under four hours. New Game 2nd Runs need to be cleared in under three hours for S rank.
Once you’ve achieved your S rank, when you start a new game or scenario, you can access the item box to find the Samurai Edge infinite ammo handgun waiting for you to take. Now you’ll never have to stress about being stingy with your ammo reserves in Resident Evil 2 ever again.
