Can You Play Red Dead Redemption 2 Multiplayer Online? What You Need to Know

Rockstar Games has made a habit of creating top quality open worlds. Ever since the developer transitioned to 3D with Grand Theft Auto 3, every effort since has been a critical darling. Grand Theft Auto V still dominates the video game industry despite having first launched on the previous generation five years ago! And it’s largely the multiplayer component to that game which has seen it stay relevant for so long. So with the studios latest game, you’re probably wondering whether Red Dead Redemption 2 is online multiplayer. Here’s what you need to know.

Red Dead Redemption 2 realizes a massive open world packed full of content, and the completing everything there is to do will take you upwards of 80 hours. But it is not a multiplayer experience. Well, not yet, at least.

Rockstar Games has already confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature a multiplayer component. Called Red Dead Online, it will launch in November this year initially in a beta format, though the specific release date hasn’t yet been confirmed.

It’s also yet to be confirmed exactly when Red Dead Online will release in its final form.

The situation with Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer, then, isn’t dissimilar to the launch of GTA V Online. If you remember, that too was teased at the game’s launch but didn’t arrive for quite some time after its initial release.

Let’s hope there aren’t as many technical issues as there was with that particular game in the case of Red Dead Redemption 2.

As for what content to expect with the upcoming multiplayer portion of the game — again, we aren’t yet sure.

Last year we wrote about the sort of potential we think Red Dead Online has, and we’re even more bullish about its prospect after having completed the single-player campaign.

It truly does feel like a world rife with opportunity for all sorts of online content. We wouldn’t bet again Rockstar Games making the most of it either.

That’s all the information we have for what you need to know about whether or not you can play Red Dead Redemption 2 online at the moment. For more useful information and guides on the game, check out our Red Dead Redemption 2 wiki.
