Feeding Your Horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

Whether you’ve just escaped from a shootout or you’re embarking on a long, cross-country trek with your horse, after a while you’ll notice that your horse’s Health and Stamina cores will have taken a bit of a hit. That’s where feeding your horse will come in handy.

To feed it, simply press and hold L2/LT when standing next to your horse (L1/ LB if you’re already on its back). When standing next to it, simply press right on the d-pad and Arthur will pull out a suitable snack from your inventory to feed your horse.

If you’re on your horse’s back, you’ll have to navigate the inventory yourself while steering. Simply choose the item from the ‘Horse’ menu in your inventory and release L1/ LB once it’s highlighted to shovel the snack into your noble steed’s mouth.

Best Items to Feed Horses in Red Dead Redemption 2

The best items we’ve found to feed your noble steed are things like Oak Cakes, Horse Hay, Apples, and Carrots. Your horse will not only see its cores recovered in an instant when feeding it any of these items, but it’ll also help to raise your horse’s moral in the long-term.

What Feeding Horses Does

As we’ve already eluded to a little bit earlier on in this post, feeding your horse will essentially allow it to restore its Health and Stamina cores, granting you the ability to ride your horse faster for longer. It’ll also improve your relationship with your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, unlocking new abilities and cool moves you can do when riding your horse.
