Meltan and Melmetal were two Pokemon introduced in the Pokemon GO mobile game. Unobtainable in the wild in any other Pokemon game, Meltan and Melmetal are sought after by those desperate to complete their Galar region Pokedex in Sword and Shield. Here’s how to get Meltan and Melmetal in these two Switch titles.
Getting Meltan in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Getting it in Pokemon Sword and Shield requires you to use the new Pokemon Home app that can be downloaded on your Nintendo Switch. You cannot just catch one in Pokemon Sword and Shield, nor its evolution, Melmetal.
To start with, however, you’ll first need to get yourself a Meltan from Pokemon GO. The easiest way to do this is via the Mystery Box item you can get from transferring a Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee.
Once the Pokemon has been transferred, you’ll be given the Mystery Box item in Pokemon GO. Open your Items Menu and select the Mystery Box. When opened, this will cause Meltan to spawn around you for 30 minutes. Catch as many as you can during this 30 minutes to help with that Meltan Candy for evolving it into Melmetal.
You can transfer Pokemon and use a Mystery Box once a week, so be sure to make the most of this every week to rack up that Meltan candy!
With Meltan caught in Pokemon GO, you need to transfer this to Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee. Then, with Pokemon Home downloaded on your Switch, you need to load it up and transfer Meltan from the game to your Pokemon Home box.
Note: You don’t need to sign up for a Premium Pokemon Home account to transfer Pokemon. Basic subscribers can keep up to 30 Pokemon in their Pokemon Home boxes.
Once Meltan is in your Pokemon Home box, transfer it to your Pokemon Sword and Shield save and you’ll all be set.
How to Get Melmetal in Pokemon Sword and Shield
The only way you can get Melmetal in Pokemon Sword and Shield is to transfer it over once you’ve evolved it from a Meltan over on Pokemon GO.
You’ll need 400 Meltan Candy in Pokemon GO to evolve it into a Melmetal. Once you’ve done this, simply follow the same steps to transfer it from Pokemon GO, into Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee, into Pokemon Home, and finally into Sword and Shield.
That’s everything you need to know on how to get Meltan and Melmetal in Pokemon Sword and Shield. For more tips, tricks, and guides be sure to check out our ever-expanding guide wiki.
