Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Get Pichu

There’s no Pokemon more iconic than the adorable Pikachu, but that didn’t stop The Pokemon Company from trying to innovate something even cuter. Pichu is the baby version that was introduced in Gen II and it’s back again in the latest game if you know where to look. Here’s how to get Pichu in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

How to Get Pichu in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Unlike most Pokemon in the game, you won’t be able to actually catch a Pichu out in the wild areas of Sword & Shield. As far as we know, there are two ways to get a Pichu.

Breeding a Pichu

The first and most reliable way is to breed one. You can hatch a Pichu from an egg by breeding a Pikachu with Ditto. To do so, you’ll obviously need a Pikachu first, which can be caught in either the Stoney Wilderness area (thunder and rain weather conditions) or Route 4 (all weather conditions).

You can check out where the Pokemon nursery is in our dedicated guide.

If you played Pokemon Let’s Go: Pikachu and you have a save file still on your Nintendo Switch, you’ll also be able to get a Pikachu by speaking with a man at the Wild Area train station.

Max Raid Reward

Successfully completing a 2-Star Max Raid is technically the only way of “catching” a Pichu in the game. These are available in both Sword & Shield, but you should be at least Level 25-30 before taking them on.

If you’re unsure about what’s involved in the multiplayer Max Raid Battles then check out our detailed guide on how to join them.
