Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s Fossil Pokémon work differently than in past games, requiring you to mix and match different parts of ancient Pokémon together to create a new combination of the two. As a result, you may be unclear on how many combos are available, so we’re here to walk you through all of the Fossil combos available in the game.

All Fossil Combos in Pokemon Sword & Shield

As it stands, there are four possible Fossil Combos in Pokemon Sword and Shield:

• Bird Fossil + Drake Fossil
• Bird Fossil + Dino Fossil
• Fish Fossil + Drake Fossil
• Fish Fossil + Dino Fossil.

These in turn produce Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish and Arctovish respectively.

Each Fossil Pokémon also carries a dual-typing based on the pieces to make it. Dracozolt is Dragon and Electric type; Arctozolt is Ice and Electric type; Dracovish is Water and Dragon type; and Arctovish is Ice and Water type.

Which Fossil Combo is the Best

With so many different choices to choose from though, you might be wondering which Fossil combo is the best in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The answer then depends on what you’re looking for.

If type coverage is your goal, Dracovish or Dracozolt are your best bets. Their mix of Dragon and Water or Electric typing reduces damage from most every basic special attack. Both are still weak to Dragon, Ice, and Fairy moves, but each has decent enough defense to survive on most occasions.

If you’re more concerned with stats, then it depends on what stats you prioritize. Arctovish and Arctozolt have well-balanced stats, but each have lower speed as a result. Dracozolt and Dracovish, meanwhile, have better speed at the cost of their stat balance; specifically, special defense and special attack respectively.

Last but not least is appearance, which is more difficult to gauge.

Each Fossil Combo in Pokemon Sword and Shield is designed to look mismatched, resulting in Pokémon that run the gamut from a little off-looking to downright ridiculous.

If you’re looking for a Fossil Pokémon that looks halfway normal, Arctozolt and Arctovish are your best bets. They still have their quirks, like having a mouth on their head, but they could still pass for more natural looking.

On the other hand, if you want Pokémon that look like mismatched parts, Dracozolt and Dracovish are your best bets. Each is clearly made from different Pokémon, and will give anyone with a bleak sense of humor a good laugh.
