Before we get into obtaining the eggs, let’s get a handle on what Strange Eggs are. Only Dark- and Poison-type Pokemon — or ones who gain one of those types through evolution — can hatch from Strange Eggs. On top of that, they take longer to hatch than any previous type of egg at 12 km.

Strange Egg Hatch List

Currently, there are eight different species of Pokemon that can be hatched from these new eggs. Check out the full list below:

  • Pawniard (Dark/Steel)
  • Vullaby (Dark/Flying)
  • Trubbish (Poison)
  • Scraggy (Dark/Fighting)
  • Larvitar* (Rock/Ground)
  • Deino* (Dark/Dragon)
  • Sandile (Ground/Dark)
  • Absol* (Dark)

How to Get

First, you’ll need to have a Rocket Radar so you can encounter GO Rocket Leaders at Pokestops or in hot air balloons. Then, you need to defeat one of these Leaders and you’ll get a Strange Egg. Pop it into one of your incubators and walk for 12 km to hatch your Pokemon.

Time needed: 1 day

Here’s a quick summary of how to get Strange Eggs (Red Eggs/Team Rocket Eggs) in Pokemon GO:

  1. Get a Rocket Radar

It takes six Mysterious Components to create a Radar. These are obtainable by defeating GO Rocket Grunts.

  2. Get an egg by defeating a GO Rocket Leader

Tapping the Rocket Radar icon in the upper right of the game screen will search the nearby Pokestops for Leaders or Leader balloons. Find one, battle them, and win to get an egg.

  3. Hatch it

Mysterious Eggs can be hatched after being in an incubator for 12 km.
