Ori and the Will of the Wisps: How to Save Your Game

In Ori and the Blind Forest, players were limited as to when they could save their game. They’d have to find one of the Spirit Wells dotted around the game’s map to manually save their game. There was no generous auto-save to help you out. As such, some players may be wondering how saving your game works in Ori and the Will of the Wisps now that it’s out on Xbox One and PC.

How to Save in Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Let’s get the obvious point out of the way first. Just like in the Blind Forest, you’ll be able to manually save whenever you want at Spirit Wells. These are marked on your map once uncovered and can be fast traveled to by opening your map, selecting it, and pressing and holding the A button.

When you’re at a Spirit Well, simply press X when standing in it to save your game. Ori will strike a pose and there will be a brief flash of light. Once you’re free to move Ori around again, your progress will have been saved and you’re safe to turn the game off.

Auto-Saving in Ori and the Will of the Wisps

On top of that, Ori and the Will of the Wisps also has an auto-save feature, too. Whenever you see an O stylized in the game’s font appear in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, the game is making an auto-save for you.

These auto-saves aren’t just checkpoints in case you die, but actual saves that’ll bring you right back to that spot if you turned the game off. You can trigger the game to auto-save by fast traveling to one of the Spirit Wells, or by transitioning off one screen and onto another. It’s fairly frequent, so you’ll never have to repeat a massive amount of platforming that you’ve already done.
