Eat Your Food
In Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, food restores your HP, increases your max HP, and gives you experience points as well. Whenever you’ve just gotten out of a battle and you need to heal up, don’t waste your Healing Tonics, eat your food instead. It’s not really a problem early on in the game, but you’ll find that the enemies will rise in levels much quicker than you do as you progress. While your level doesn’t really matter too much, and you can afford being four or five levels below an area’s boss, it’s still important to try to keep up as much as you can.
Some food items will leave you with disposable items too. For instance, napples will leave you with napple cores and chickens will leave you with chicken bones. If you don’t need these distraction items, be sure to clear them from your inventory by discarding them, or they’ll take up valuable space.
Use Your Potions
Speaking of things taking up space in your inventory, don’t hoard all of your offensive potions. Potions like Whirlwind, Blaze, and Cyclone are very easy to come by in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, so don’t worry about wasting them. While I wouldn’t normally use them in regular enemy encounters, they definitely come in handy during boss fights and even mid-boss fights. Time pauses whenever you’re checking your inventory, so there’s no need to worry about having to search through your items for the right potion.
The offensive potions can also be helpful for clearing out mobs during boss fights, and some of them can even stun a boss out of executing a powerful move. Healing Tonics are also best used in fights against the enemies – healing with the Tonics is a lot faster than trying to eat your food in the middle of battle.
Clear Out All Areas
Whenever you enter a new dungeon, be sure to purchase the area map from the vendor as soon as you hit up the rest area. This gives you an idea of where all the skirmishes and loot chests are in the dungeon. It’s generally wise to try to explore the dungeon very thoroughly before going for the main boss. You’ll get rewards like Phozon Prisms which reward you with new skills, extra potions, and even bigger inventory bags that allow you to carry more stuff.
Some dungeons also contain trial rooms where you’ll get to fight an optional boss to receive an extra special reward. While these are generally a lot tougher than even the main area bosses, it’s always worth attempting them for the rewards. And if you want to avoid these fights, the area map will show you the location, and you’ll be able to avoid the trials accordingly.
Upgrade Your Character Regularly
As you obtain Phozon Prisms in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, you’ll unlock even more skills in your skill tree. However, it’s a good idea to focus on a select few skills that cater to your play style. Once you’ve chosen two or three skills that you want to use for a particular character, save up your Phozons to upgrade those skills. You’ll get big attack and PP bonuses from upgrading, and this will help you greatly in later chapters for each character.
You’ll also have ability points, which are used to upgrade existing character abilities. I recommend getting the perks that increase your HP recovery rate during the early game. Once you’ve gotten used to the gameplay, it’s also a good idea to get abilities that increase your guard capability and counterattacks. These will help you a lot in later chapters, where it’s wiser to guard enemies and watch their movements before striking.
Make Use of Your Alchemy Skills
Alchemy is a very important mechanic in Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. By picking up Materials, and other items like Carroteers and Turnies, you can mix up these items to create powerful potions. This is also a good source of Healing Tonics, and you can save money by mixing them instead of having to buy them from the vendor. Be sure to take note of the Material level as well; the level is indicated by the number on the scrap of paper attached to the bottle. The higher the number, the more potent your creations will be.
You can also mix offensive potions in the middle of boss fights and toss them at bosses. You’ll also want to craft potions as soon as you get the materials, so that you don’t waste unnecessary inventory space.
