No Man’s Sky: Where to Find Black Holes and What They Do

Black Holes – No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky has quite a few things going on in the space department. Starships, multiple galaxies, different types of stars and suns, and other goodies that will satisfy nearly any sci-fi fan. One of the game’s coolest, and rarest, features are the black holes that exist throughout space. These are pretty hard to spot and many players will go for hours upon hours and still not find one.

While there’s no guaranteed way to find a black hole, there is one alert that sometimes leads to one. Randomly throughout your travels, you can encounter an Anomaly. This is a random event that inserts something into a given star system that doesn’t belong. So far we’ve seen two different ones. One involved a Space Station with a Korvax Priest that offered us either a shorter path to Atlas, a shorter path to the Center, or some assistance in the form of supplies (usually a blueprint). That shorter path to the center is a black hole.

When flying around in space, pull up your Galactic Map (press down on the d-pad) and you may get a notification saying “Anomaly Detected,” followed by a waypoint and path added to your map. Sometimes this is simply an Atlas Station, but in that case you’ll know by highlighting the waypoint. If it’s not an Atlas Station, head on over to check it out.

Other times, you’ll warp into a new star system and then an Anomaly will appear in your area and be marked by a purple and white symbol that resembles the Space Station’s gold symbol. That’s the Space Station. Enter, choose the option for a shorter path to the Center, and head towards the waypoint provided to encounter a black hole.

Once you find the black hole, you have two choices. You can dive in or ignore it. Diving in warps you to a random star system 2,000 light years closer to the Center. There is no way of knowing where it will take you until you make the jump. Are you brave enough to find out what awaits you on the other side?
