No Man’s Sky’s latest update, titled Atlas Rises, adds in a ton of new features and fixes into the space exploration game. While players can now explore with other players thanks to the co-op multiplayer elements, there’s also over 30 hours of new story, too. Of course, with No Man’s Sky having such a huge universe to explore, many will be wondering exactly how you start the Atlas Rises story.

Let’s start off with some good news. From what we’ve gathered so far, it doesn’t look like you’ll need to have completed the Atlas Path quest from the base game to enjoy the new story content. However, you will have to wait to be sent a transmission from an unknown source. Exactly when this will trigger or how you trigger it remains to be seen, but the signal will provide you with some ‘Strangers Coordinates’ and the quest ‘Awakenings’ will begin. Once this quest has started in No Man’s Sky, simply follow the waypoints laid out for you and you’ll be free to enjoy the Atlas Rises story.

We’ll be sure to update this post as and when we find out more about what may trigger the transmission that provides you with the coordinates and starts the ‘Awakenings’ quest. For now, though, that’s about all that is known about how to start the Atlas Rises story in No Man’s Sky.
