How to Grapple in Mortal Kombat 11

You won’t get far in Mortal Kombat 11 if you don’t know how to use all of the game’s mechanics. That’s why we’re here with a guide to walk you through how to grapple with any character.

Available for use by any character in the game, grappling allows you to deal a nice chunk of damage to opponents while also breaking through their guard.

Not only that, but it can also serve as the crescendo for a brutal string of combos, delivering a blow that can put your opponent over the edge of defeat.

Best of all is that it’s easy to use. Across all platforms, you can grapple by pressing two face buttons simultaneously: those buttons being Square and X on PlayStation 4, X and A on Xbox One, and Y and B on the Nintendo Switch.

Knowing how to execute a grapple is only half the battle though. Like every other move in your arsenal, it’s crucial to know the best times to use grapples and mix them into your move set.

When the Best Time to Grapple is

The best time to use a grapple is when your opponent is locked into your combo or guarding. Either situation provides the best opportunity to successfully grapple them without leaving yourself too open to their attacks.

For the former situation, try to time it so that you grab near the end of your combo. This will maximize the damage you deal overall and keep your opponent off balance while you plan your next move.

For the latter, you have a bit more breathing room. However, given that your opponent can break out of their guard at their leisure, it’s best to execute a grapple after a short or mid-length combo to make sure you hit them with it before they dodge.

Hopefully this cleared up how to grapple in Mortal Kombat 11. For more on the game, check out our review of the game or take a look at our guide wiki for more tips, tricks, and info.
