How to Make an Anvil in Minecraft

First things first, you’ll need to make sure you’ve got the following materials:

  • Iron Ingots x4
  • Iron Blocks x3

Once you’ve got these, simply head to a crafting table. If you’re playing on the console versions of Minecraft, you can just drop them in wherever you want in 3×3 crafting grid that appears and you’ll be able to make an Anvil.

However, to make an anvil in Minecraft on PC, you’ll need to place the Iron Blocks across the top row, and then place the Iron Ingots across the bottom row and the very center block of the grid.

Doing this will net you an anvil in Minecraft.

What Are Anvils Used for in Minecraft?

Anvils are a pretty important item to have in Minecraft, as they allow players to repair items, name items and animals in the game with name tags, and enchant items with enchantments to make them more powerful.

How to Get Slightly and Very Damaged Anvils in Minecraft

If you’re playing in Minecraft’s Survival mode, it’s possible to also get two slight variations of the item — the slightly damaged, and the very damaged anvil.

These cannot be crafted, and can only be obtained by repeatedly using a normal anvil until it becomes too damaged and degrades. There’s no difference in how any of them work in Minecraft either, as they can all be used to repair items, enchant, or create name tags etc.

That’s everything you need to know on how to get an anvil in Minecraft. For more tips, tricks, and guides on the game, be sure to check out more of our guides below.
