This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

For all intents and purposes, Minecraft is an endless game. You harvest materials, build things, kill animals and creatures, go to sleep and do it all again the next day. There is, however, a story (if you will) to the game that sees you kill the Ender Dragon to complete the game. Here’s how to kill the Ender Dragon.

Here’s How to Kill the Ender Dragon in Minecraft

Defeating the Ender Dragon is easily the most difficult task in Minecraft and it requires not only a lot of combative skill but a lot of materials too. Before diving into what you’ll need to defeat the Ender Dragon, let’s talk about what this beast is.

What the Ender Dragon Is

The Ender Dragon has been in the game for years and years and it was the first boss added to the game. It’s found in the End, which is a strange and other-worldly dimension that must be accessed through a portal.

Specifically, an End Portal. To find this End Portal, you must first find a stronghold. In the stronghold is portal room. In that portal room is the End Portal. To activate this portal, you need to place 12 Eyes of Ender into the 12 portal frames.

Upon doing so, the End Portal will open and you can step inside. Once inside, you should find the Ender Dragon flying around.

What You Need to Kill the Ender Dragon

To kill the Ender Dragon, you’re going to need to stock up on some specific things to help you actually survive the fight. This beast can crash through every single type of block except for Obsidian and End Stone, so we recommend bringing as much as this as possible into the fight.

To hit the dragon, you’re going to need a bow so we recommend the best bow you can get your hands on and be sure to enchant it with the best Power enchantment you have.

The next thing you’ll need is a powerful sword. Now, this sword won’t be able to hit the dragon, but it can be used to kill the Endermen walking around the area.

Finally, equip your very best armor, which is hopefully Diamond armor enchanted with a powerful Protection enchantment.

How to Defeat the Ender Dragon

When this boss fight begins, immediately look for the Obsidian Pillars in the middle of the area and build your way to the top of them. Atop each one is an End Crystal. Destroy these as fast as you can because they keep the Ender Dragon’s health from falling below a certain point of HP.

With these crystals destroyed, shoot arrows at the dragon’s head. When you shoot its head, it will flee. Follow it and continue to aim for its head, landing as many arrows there as you can. Eventually, the dragon will die.

It leaves behind a lot of experience and the Dragon Egg so be sure to pick this stuff up before you leave the End.

That’s it for our guide on how to kill the Ender Dragon in Minecraft.
