How to Glide in Mario Kart Tour

As you drive through the different courses in Mario Kart Tour you’ll see a few different types of boost pads on the ground and on jumps. The red and orange ones have been around for ages and they’ll give you a speed boost.

That’s nothing new to people who have played a Mario Kart game. However, what might be a bit less familiar are those blue boost pads. Those are the ones that enable gliding.

They were introduced to the series in Mario Kart 7 on 3DS and once you hit one of these, you’ll get a slight boost and your glider will deploy. These will only be set on inclines since you need to be airborne to use your glider.

Once you hit that blue pad your glider automatically pops open and you can still steer left or right to avoid mid-air hazards or to safely land on the track. Besides moving side to side, there are also more tactical options.

If you swipe up or down it will either prolong or shorten your glider flight. The controls are inverted, so swiping upwards will make your kart head straight to the ground and down will let your glider catch more air.

Both options can be used tactically in Mario Kart Tour. Sometimes there will be boosts located on the ground that can’t be used without landing first. The same goes for airborne boosts that would be missed if you land too early.

Here’s a quick summary on how to glide in Mario Kart Tour:

  1. Drive over a blue boost pad

This starts the gliding sequence and deploys your glider.

  2. Continue using left and right swipes to steer

Even though you’re mid-air you can still control your direction.

  3. Swipe up or down to control flight time

This can be used tactically to gain the upper hand on your opponents.
