If you own a Nintendo Switch or Wii U, or at least know somebody who has one, you’ve undoubtedly been bombarded with some extremely high praise for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This Nintendo exclusive is being hailed as one of the best video games ever made, and it’s tough not to agree. Thanks to beautiful art direction, an open world, and some new takes on tried and true mechanics made this latest entry an instant classic. Like most other instant classics, it feels like it’s been around forever, and we couldn’t imagine a time when we weren’t running around as Link. It’s a modern classic, though, having just had its release date pass during this year.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released worldwide on March 3, 2017, right alongside the Switch which made for some huge sales. The release date for the Wii U version is the same. It turned out to be everything that everyone wanted which has it sitting on an aggregated score of 97 on the Nintendo Switch and a 96 on the Wii U.

Not many were expecting to be so wowed on the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but it proved that Nintendo still has a few tricks up its sleeve.
