Can You Change to Japanese Audio & Voice Track in Kingdom Hearts 3? What You Need to Know

After almost 14 years of waiting, Kingdom Hearts 3 has finally arrived on PS4 and Xbox One. While the cutscenes are great, filling in the gaps of Sora and co’s adventure across various Disney worlds, some players may be wondering if you can change to the Japanese audio and voice track in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Sadly, we’ve got to be the bearers of bad news this time around. Having gone through both the Config settings on the game’s main menu, and having tried the in-game settings, there’s no option to change to Japanese audio and voice track in Kingdom Hearts 3.

It appears as though Nomura may have signposted this as a problematic feature in the game back in June 2018. In a Weekly Famitsu interview, via Gematsu, Normua stated that the “differences in lip syncing to the audio is causing the issue.”

Sadly, even back in June, Normua had highlighted the ability to change to Japanese audio and voice track and back to English as “difficult to support.” From what we can gather, this was something that the development team simply couldn’t support and get finished in time for the game’s release.

While there’s always the chance that Square Enix could release this feature via a post-launch update, there’s no official confirmation of anything just yet. If anything does change, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.

That’s all you need to know about whether or not you can change to Japanese audio and voice tracks in Kingdom Hearts 3. For more tips, tricks, and guides on the game, be sure to check out our Kingdom Hearts 3 guide wiki.

TLDR;

Question: Can you change to Japanese audio and voice track in Kingdom Hearts 3?

Answer: Sadly, you cannot change to Japanese audio and voice tracks in the game if you’ve picked up a western copy. Nomura had stated in an interview in June last year that the development team was having problems supporting this feature due to differences in the lip syncing and audio.
