Injustice 2 Story and Endings

injustice 2

This article will be covering the single-player story of Injustice 2 with spoilers. If you really want to experience the narrative for yourself, we suggest turning back now. If you’re just curious to see what happens with Earth’s powerful defenders and the vicious villains they fight, then read on.

Injustice 2 opens with a story many fans of the DC universe will know quite well. It’s the destruction of Krypton, an event that sent a swaddled, alien baby to Earth where he would grow to become a shining symbol of hope and justice, Superman. The opening isn’t just about the Man of Steel, though. You get to see a young woman who is quickly revealed to be Kara Zor-El, Superman’s older cousin and the future Supergirl.

The opening is also a moment to share what’s to come for the heroes in the present day. Huge ships shaped like mechanical skulls are crashing through the clouds and from them spill out horrifying cybernetic beings that are killing everyone in sight. They are led by a cruel alien known as Brainiac. That name is fitting for this monster because he values knowledge above all else. He collects specimens from different races, entire cities, and even planets. When he has what he wants he destroys the rest without any hesitation.

As Kara is frightened, her mother shows her a ship that was built by her uncle. An identical one was made for her cousin so that they can travel to a planet called Earth to escape Brainiac’s onslaught. As they fly through space, the destruction of Krypton, of their home, sends Kara’s vessel careening off course as a young Superman maintains his pace towards his new home.

Forward Through Time, But Not Quite the Present

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

After the harrowing opening that allowed fans to relive the early, depressing moments of Superman’s life, Injustice 2 brings players into the future, but not the present day just yet. Injustice: Gods Among Us saw Superman kill the Joker for what he did to Metropolis and what he made the hero do to his wife and unborn child. That moment changed him forever and led him to form the Regime.

The Regime was a group of heroes, and even some villains, that sought to bring justice to the world by any means necessary, even if that meant killing people. It was a huge diversion from how the Justice League used to perform, and this led other heroes, especially Batman, to come up with a means to stop them. He knows that if he brings down Superman, the others will either listen or go into hiding, so he heads straight for Arkham Asylum where his former partner is keeping his own special brand of order.

Krypton’s last son is imposing as he patrols the halls of the asylum with his glowing red eyes, ready to eviscerate anyone who seeks to disrupt how things are. Batman confronts him and a fight ensues, it’s a clash of titans as the two most respected heroes in the world trade blows. Of course, the Dark Knight comes out on top because A) he’s controlled by the player and B) he always finds a way to win, but then things take a turn down an even darker road.

Damian Wayne, who serves as Robin in Injustice 2, steps out of the shadows holding Victor Zsasz, asking him just how many people he’s killed. After his answer, Damian kills him on the spot, shocking his father which leads to a fight. When all is said and done, Superman saves Robin and flies off, but they are apprehended later on and sent to prison for their crimes.

Hello Puddin’, Welcome to the Present

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

The current day is quite different than what many had expected. With Superman being locked up and the Regime being disbanded, many have shifted sides, some have gone into hiding, and others just went home, dissolving any relationships they may have had with others. One of the more interesting developments is that inside the Batcave, working on the computer is Harley Quinn. After Joker’s demise, Batman took her in and figured out that she’s actually a good person and insanely intelligent.

After the introduction, it’s revealed that a new group of villains is operating in the world. They call themselves the Society and are led by Gorilla Grodd. The group includes the likes of Cheetah, Bane, Deadshot (who is being forced), Captain Cold, and some others. It’s not clear what they’re planning, but they definitely need to be stopped.

Batman sends Harley Quinn, Green Arrow, and Black Canary to go deal with things, where an even bigger threat is revealed.

Catching Up With Kara Zor-El

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

Kara Zor-El didn’t vanish forever after the destruction of her planet. The ship that her uncle had built for her put her into stasis as she drifted through the cold expanse of space. She was discovered by Black Adam. While he’s definitely been a villain in the past, he was part of Superman’s Regime and, alongside Wonder Woman, is keeping Kara hidden from Batman.

Their plan is to use her as a trump card to free Superman from prison once the opportunity arises. There’s trouble brewing, though, as Kara is becoming comfortable with her abilities and wants to get out there to help people. While they claim it’s for her safety, Wonder Woman and Black Adam keep her prisoner. She goes along with it for now, since she’s unaware of what her cousin has become and truly wants to save him.

Gorilla Grodd Isn’t the Only Boss

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

After the brief intermission where we get to find out that Kara is on Earth, it’s back to the mission that Batman sent his friends on. They come face to face with the Society and face off against a few of its members. It’s here that it’s revealed Gorilla Grodd is forcing Deadshot to work for him thanks to an explosive device in his head (you figured he’d have learned from Suicide Squad).

Black Canary and Green Arrow end up facing Dr. Fate who is a friend of theirs. He’s fighting them not because he’s evil, but because he saw that a great threat was approaching and it wasn’t their fate to die just yet, so he was trying to force them to go with him. The duo isn’t the type to run from danger, and their friends, so they fight him off and continue to focus on the Society. After a brutal fight, and a confrontation with Gorilla Grodd himself, new light is shed on the situation. Grodd isn’t alone in his endeavors, he has someone he reports too.

Before you know it, Green Arrow and Black Canary are being beamed up to some mysterious ship where they come face-to-face with Brainiac. He discovered that Superman, a Kryptonian, was on Earth, meaning that the destruction he wrought all those years ago was incomplete. He also finds out that Superman has super powers, a result of living under the yellow sun of Earth. It’s an opportunity to gain more knowledge, which he’s all about.

He takes the two heroes hostage, then begins his siege on Earth. Kara witnesses what’s happening alongside Black Adam and Wonder Woman. She instantly remembers what happened to Krypton and knows that Earth must be saved immediately. They head off to free Superman.

 Catching Up With Everyone

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

The story starts to pick up quickly once Brainiac starts attacking, so let’s slow down really quick and take a look at all the characters moving in the background. We’re going to group them all together since they’re all heading towards the same point in the story, which is when things start pushing towards the climax.

While the Society is doing Brainiac’s bidding (most of them unknowingly), there are still other heroes and villains doing their own thing. As you know, Wonder Woman and Black Adam have been working together to keep Supergirl away from Batman, but they then went to go save Superman from prison. Blue Beetle and Firestorm have been working for the Dark Knight and were guarding the prison when they attacked. There was a lot more than just Superman waiting in there, though.

Cyborg and Damian both were incarcerated with the disgraced hero and were able to be freed during the hectic battle. Aquaman, who was also part of the Regime is in Atlantis, where he vowed to stay and ignore the surface dwellers. After everything that went down he no longer wanted to be part of a team. Even when Green Lantern, who once again was accepted into the Green Lantern Corp. after his actions with Sinestro and the Regime, approached him to join Batman, he opted against it, though he bore no ill will towards Batman. The Flash is feeling guilty about his time with the Regime, although he was pardoned, but once Brainiac attacks, he springs into action.

Catwoman, who was part of the Society as a double agent for Batman, is busy trying to gather whatever information she can on Gorilla Grodd and Brainiac. Her fellow Siren Harley Quinn is sticking around as well, keeping her promise that she’s a good guy now, though she has her moments.

Dr. Fate hasn’t been seen for some time, but you just know he’s gonna pop up again.

While everyone’s doing their thing, Wonder Woman, Black Adam, and Supergirl approach Superman’s cell when Batman appears. Though everyone is preparing for a fight, Batman surprises them all by opening the cell himself. Now that everyone is accounted for, it’s time for the two to team up again to face the imposing threat of Brainiac.

Kings Parlay and The World’s Finest

Injustice 2 Story and Endings

The group of heroes (and villains) comes up with a plan to attack Brainiac’s ship. However, they’ll need a lot of power so they turn to Black Adam and Aquaman to use the stone that powers Adam. They know that Brainiac will sense it once the seal is broken, so they prepare to fight. Brainiac sends Grodd to deal with them, so the three kings find themselves face to face and a battle ensues. After it’s over, Aquaman kills Gorilla Grodd before Black Adam resumes his mission.

Meanwhile, Batman and Superman are preparing to fight together again. They must somehow take down Brainiac’s ship, and that’s going to require all their might. While the group splits up to evacuate and defend major cities (which Brainiac is trying to collect), Batman, Superman, and Supergirl focus on the main ship. Unfortunately, it has a field that returns damage and can’t be penetrated. No matter how hard they fight there’s nothing that could be done.

Batman realizes that it isn’t the fastest, though, so suggests that Superman just tries to outmaneuver it, which he does for a bit. It turned out that Brainiac could increase the speed easily and sends Superman hurtling towards the ground before blasting the hero and killing him. He then offers up a deal to Batman and the others. If they turn over Supergirl, he’ll spare Earth. They have an hour to decide or everyone dies.

Cyborg remembers that he was able to get past Brainiac’s programming which will help to delay the threat of world destruction. Batman and Supergirl plan to board his ship once they get a chance and finally end it all.

Brainiac’s Ship and Tough Choices

Batman and Supergirl successfully board the ship, only to find that Brainiac can use the ship as if it were a part of him. He quickly traps Supergirl and takes her hostage and sends his minions to kill Batman. Out of nowhere, Superman bursts through the wall and saves his old friend. It appears he didn’t die after all, and just disappeared as the lasers hit to make it seem that way.

Dr. Fate then appears, angry at the two for causing so much chaos. It’s that chaos that led Brainiac here to cleanse the planet. Batman and Superman face off against him, and when they win, Superman crushes the helmet to free him from its control. Brainiac immediately shows up and murders him, then looks to repeat the process with Batman and Superman.

They do battle with Brainiac, fighting to save Earth and all of the people and planets the evil being has collected. They win, but the threat isn’t over. With Brainiac left unconscious, there’s nobody to control the ship. Superman sits in the captain’s seat and manages to take control, partially. He prevents the ship from crashing into the planet and even manages to restore most of the cities that Brainiac had managed to steal, along with the people inside them. He’s not finished though.

He sees the opportunity to make the Regime stronger than ever. He has no intentions of going back to prison, and so the player must make a choice. Do they side with Batman and justice, or do they side with Superman and power? Your choice decides the ending.

Ultimate Justice

Siding with Batman starts a huge battle. While everyone scatters, he faces off against Aquaman and Black Adam before making a dash for the Batcave. Supergirl is busy dealing with Wonder Woman and her cousin until she gets a message from Batman to lure them to the cave. Waiting there is Batman in a power suit that lets him go toe to toe with the Man of Steel.

They face one another, reminiscing over better times when they were both on the same side and viewed one another as family. Many things have changed since the death of the Joker, and now the two juggernauts must fight.

After a brutal battle, Batman finally emerges victorious. He knows that Superman had good intentions, but can’t leave the lives of so many in the hands of one. He re-imprisons his old friend, distraught over how things turned out. Everyone is rounded up and put away, and Batman, along with his friends, watches over the world hoping for a better tomorrow.

Ultimate Power

Siding with Superman sees him kill Brainiac, but he won’t stop there. He knows that he must take out any opposition or else Batman will somehow manage to lock him up again. So he fights. He fights those he once called friends, family, and allies. He crushes anyone who stands against him under his heel, even going against his cousin, Supergirl.

After she leads him to the Batcave, he faces his old friend once more. He remembers the time he told Bruce that Lois was pregnant, but Bruce already knew. Then they fight. After a hard fought victory, the story flashes forward. Superman’s suit has changed, he has integrated with Brainiac’s ship and now has full control. He’s unstoppable. He approaches a cell that is like the one he was in. Inside is Supergirl, suppressed under the light of a red sun. He wants her to join him and is willing to wait as long as it takes to make that happen.

He doesn’t want to control her if he doesn’t have to, though he’s not fully against it. Before everything ends, he shows off his newest pet. It’s Batman with a Brainiac-like headset on, completely under the control of his old friend.
