Hyper Light Drifter will have you constantly hitting the dash button to help you access hard-to-reach places or evading enemy attacks. Here’s how to upgrade your dash in a number of different ways.
Your dash in Hyper Light Drifter is pretty important. Not only is it useful to avoid charging enemies and projectile attacks, but it also allows you to reach difficult platforms and collect health packs, Gear Bits, and more.
However, sometimes your standard dash that you start the game with just won’t be enough. Instead, you’ll need to be able to chain dashes together, have a little extra protection, or perhaps chain an attack onto the end of your speed maneuver. In order to do this, you’ll need to get yourself kitted out with some upgrades.
Now, just like every other upgrade in Hyper Light Drifter, these cost Upgrade Bits. So make sure you’ve picked up enough Gear Bits during your travels to build up a hefty sum of Upgrade Bits to purchase your upgrades. In order to upgrade, you’re going to need to head back to the central hub world and head North from the diamond-shaped platform on the floor. Just to the North-east of here, you should see a building with two arrows on the sign. Head into here and you should find a guy to talk to. Simply hold ‘Y’ to talk to him and you’ll be offered three different upgrades.
The first upgrade allows you to chain dashes together with an accurate use of the dash button. Another protects you while dashing, and the third allows you to strike your enemy with your sword at the end of your dash. All of these cost three Upgrade Bits, so make sure you’ve got plenty of ’em.
To buy them, simply hold ‘A’ on your controller on the upgrade you want. Once you’ve made the upgrade you’ll hear the sound and your new-found abilities will be all ready to use. You can try them out in the room just to the right of where the guy is standing in this building.
