Catacombs are a recurring dungeon type in Elden Ring, each containing a boss encounter, a useful Spirit Ash, and often some light puzzle-solving to mix things up. The Minor Erdtree Catacombs are no exception, so let’s take a look at how to get to Minor Erdtree Catacombs in Elden Ring (& why you should go there)
Getting to Minor Erdtree Catacombs in Elden Ring
- Travel to Summonwater Village Outskirts Site of Grace
From this location in Eastern Limgrave, follow the road east towards Caelid (keeping an eye out for the Tibia Mariner, if you haven’t already defeated it).
- Follow the path towards the Minor Erdtree.
Continue along the path, making your way past the Smoldering Church (but don’t actually enter Caelid).
- Take the path to the base of the Minor Erdtree.
To the left, you will see a pathway that leads to the base of the Minor Erdtree. Watch out for the Erdtree Guardians who will ambush you along the way.
- Avoid or confront the Erdtree Avatar
At the base, you will be confronted with an Erdtree Avatar. Either dispatch it, or circle the tree to the right to avoid it.
- Open the door to the Minor Erdtree Catacombs
It’s easy to miss, but there is a door behind the Minor Erdtree that leads down to the Minor Erdtree Catacombs.
- Take the elevator down, use the lever to open the boss door, then take the passageway under the elevator.
Inside, you can take an elevator to the lower floor of the Catacombs. Make your way through it as per normal, and use the lever at the end to open the boss door, and return to the start. Send the elevator back up, roll off the platform and you can access a different part of the Catacombs (pictured below).
- Defeat the Erdtree Burial Watchdogs
The boss encounter here can be a little tricky, as you must contend with two Erdtree Burial Watchdogs simultaneously. The sword-armed one will engage you up close, and the scepter-wielding one will cast spells at you from a distance.
- Claim your reward.
Once you have defeated the Erdtree Burial Watchdogs, you will be rewarded with the Mad Pumpkin Head Ashes, a powerful Spirit Ash summon in its own right.
Minor Erdtree Catacombs Reward
As mentioned above, successfully clearing the dungeon and defeating the boss will reward you with the Mad Pumpkin Head Ashes. This is a pretty good reward, as it essentially allows you to summon that iconic mini-boss as a companion in the game, and it can help with dispatching large groups of enemies or just drawing aggro away from you.
Do note, however, that it has an FP cost of 110, which means that you do need to have put quite a few points into Mind before you’re actually able to summon it.
