You gotta friend in an Allay in Minecraft!

Allays are one of the new mobs in Minecraft’s The Wild update, and are friendly little things that’ll do a little dance for you. Not only that, but Allays can be used to help you collect items in Minecraft, which can be particularly handy if you’re adventuring far away from your base.

How to Get Allays to Find & Collect Items in Minecraft

Before you can use an Allay to find items for you in your blocky world, you’ll need to know where to find and tame Allays in Minecraft. These can be found in both Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions, inside little jail cells.

Once you’ve freed the Allay from its prison, you can give it any item you want it to find and collect and it’ll fly off and start searching for it. To give an Allay an item, select it from your inventory/ quickbar and then right-click on PC or press L2/ LT/ L consoles to give it to them.

The Allay will then follow the player around from up to 64 blocks away and will search for more of the item you’ve given it up to 32 blocks away from the player.

It’s worth noting that an Allay only has one inventory slot, so it can only hold one stack of whichever item you give it. It also can’t search for multiple items at a time, so make sure you’re prioritizing the items you really need.

The Allay cannot break blocks on its own, either, so you can’t have it mining for Diamonds or anything like that.

A final note to keep in mind is an Allay won’t be able to enter water to gather items lurking below the surface, so keep that in mind before you try sending it on an underwater excursion.

  • You’ve Got a Friend in Me – Give an Allay an item and have it return more of that item to you. The easiest way to do this is to mine a bunch of dirt blocks, pick one dirt up and give it to the Allay. It’ll then immediately pick up the rest and pop this trophy/ achievement.
  • Birthday Song – Give an Allay a cake and then use a note block to make them drop the cake at the note block. By playing the note block, you’ll also make an Allay dance in Minecraft, which is just a cute thing to watch anyway, so it’s a win-win all-round.

That’s everything you need to know on how to get Allays to help you collect items in Minecraft. For more on Mojang’s creative, blocky world, be sure to check out the links below.
