This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

There’s a plethora of different armor options for Jin throughout his quest for revenge across Tsushima Island, each offering their own different perks according to the theme of the outfit. Here we’re going to run through what we consider the best armor in Ghost of Tsushima.

Unlike in other games, you won’t actually be purchasing new armor in Ghost of Tsushima. Armor sets are either given to you as part of main or side quest story arcs, or are found across the open-world in Mythic Tales.

Once you have an armor set, you’ll then be able to take it to an Armorer to upgrade several times. For every upgrade, not only will it receive new buffs and perks but also change in appearance. Although, if you don’t like the new look you can hit triangle to change it back to its previous look while still keeping the upgrades.

Spoiler warning: This articles contains a spoiler pertaining to a special ability Jin receives in the late game.

Best Armor in Ghost of Tsushima

It’s hard to definitely state which armor in the game is best since it rather depends on your playstyle — do you prefer samurai or ghost, aggro or stealth? So, what we’ll do here is list the best armors across both stealth and aggro playstyles, giving you two options for both.

Best Samurai Armor

Clan Sakai

ghost of tsushima

You will receive Clan Sakai Armor as part of the main story, and once you do we highly recommend upgrading it. This armor is superb for those who like to engage in standoffs since it increases the standoff streak and has a 25% chance of terrifying enemies after each successful one.

You can take out almost half a camp before “normal” combat has even been initiated, and once it has, the Clan Sakai Armor massively increases your health and majorly improves your damage output.

Kensei

best armor

An armor set fit for legendary warriors, the Kensei Armor has some unique properties that make it extremely useful for those who like to engage in combat and use the full arsenal of Jin’s skills and weapons.

Once fully upgraded, the Kensei Armor grants 30% increase to Resolve gains, a 30% increase in Ghost Weapon damage, and for every enemy hit with a Ghost Weapon, they will deal 50% less damage and receive 50% more damage.

Use this armor in combination with Kunai, Sticky Bombs, and Mythic Combat arts and you’ll be pretty much unstoppable.

The Kensei Armor is acquired by completing The Six Blades of Kojiro Mythic Tale.

Best Stealth Armor

Ghost

best armor

Unsurprisingly, the Ghost Armor is the best in the game for those who like to strike their enemies down using stealth. Not only does it decrease enemy detection speed by 40% but also has a 15% chance to terrify enemies just for having come near you.

Most importantly, the Ghost Armor reduces the number of kills required to activate Ghost Stance by two, which means that you’re only two away from becoming an unstoppable samurai badass after a successful showdown streak.

You will acquire the Ghost Armor as part of the game’s main storyline.

Mongol Commanders’

best armor

Although the Ronin Armor offers some useful buffs for stealth players, it is the Mongol Commanders’ that is actually way more useful. Why? Well, because there’s no greater camouflage than wearing the same clothes as the enemy.

The Mongol Commanders’ Armor grants a major increase to health and reduces all incoming damage by a major amount. Most importantly, it disguises you out of combat, massively reducing Mongol detection speed.

Obviously, don’t rely on this outfit if you’re attacking Bandits or Ronins. It is only useful versus Mongols.

You will get the Mongol Commanders’ Armor as as a reward for completing the For the Khan Tale, which is available from Jogaku Temple.
