First, before we dive into the strategy we used to get 30,000 points let’s explain the rules. You have a limited amount of time to run around and destroy enough boxes to get 30,000 points as Cloud. You get his Braver skill, which is useful for taking down the large 1,500 point boxes that block your way, and a second skill tied to the weapon that you choose.

There are also three red time boxes that will extend the time you have by 10 seconds, and without them, it’s borderline impossible to get a 30,000 point Whack a Box score.

The first box is a bit hidden in the first area up a small hill to your right, don’t forget it.

The second is after the first double 1,500 point box atop a giant pile of small boxes, and the final one is final little area after you break the last double block of 1,500 point boxes.

We used Cloud’s Buster Sword for Focused Thrust so we could smash through large piles of boxes quick while also moving forward. The trick is to never hesitate to smash boxes. Always be smashing whatever is around you to build up your ATB.

When your ATB is full, quickly hustle over to the nearest 1,500 box that’s blocking your way and unleash two shots on it. It’s super important to not miss any Braver shots otherwise you’re probably screwed. It takes two Braver shots and a few normal attacks to break them. It’s not worth spending time on any 1,500 box that isn’t blocking the way.

In each area repeat this pattern of smashing whatever is around you (remember you can hold square while in Operator Mode for an area of effect attack), and then sprinting/rolling over to the nearest 1,500 box in your way to unleash Braver. When two of the 1,500 boxes are in your way, you can Braver the space between to hit and break both of them at the same time which will be a big boost to your score.

In order to have enough time you must bust your butt over to the time boxes. We were whacking boxes pretty much nonstop and still only barely got above 30,000 points in Whack a Box. It’s very tough so good luck and try not to lose your mind if you want to get this trophy and ultimately the platinum for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
