The first thing to note is that FIFA 20 isn’t the most reliable game when it comes to tracking things in game. When you score what you consider to be a volley, the game sometimes won’t track it.

You simply need to keep doing it, making it as obvious as possible. Eventually, you’ll get what you need for the objectives.

How to Score Volleys in FIFA 20

Since crossing is nigh on useless in FIFA 20, it’s best to try to score a volley by passing so someone close by.

At a base level, the best thing to do is to press the cross/lob pass button (square on PS4 and X on Xbox One), to pass to one of your players and then shoot with circle/B before the ball hits the ground.

PlatformScore Volleys Input
PS4Press square to pass, then circle to shoot
Xbox OnePress X to pass, then B to shoot before the ball hits the ground
SwitchPress Y to pass, then A to shoot before the ball hits the ground

The situations in which we found it the best was when you were on the break, with more space and at least two players attacking.

Then, when you’re close to the goal and the opposing goalkeeper rushes the ball carrier, you can chip it to the second player with a tap of the lob button, and then shoot.

That should count toward the score volleys objective and it is significantly easier than crossing in the conventional sense.

It is also worth noting that you should wait until the ball is below head height before pressing shoot, so that your player doesn’t try to score with their head.

Also, don’t be scared to score half volleys (where the ball hits the ground once first) because they have been known to count before too.
