How to Pet Fangs for Hire in Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 introduces a new feature to the series in the form of its Guns for Hire/ Fangs for Hire system. This enables players to call upon NPCs in combat to give them the upper hand. Though the generic NPCs don’t offer much, there are nine specialized ‘For Hire’ characters that you’ll unlock along the way. Three of those – Boomer, Peaches, and Cheeseburger – make up the Fangs for Hire and are lethal against enemies. As such, after they’ve taken down an enemy or six, you might want to pet them and give them some fuss for their hard work.

In order to pet Boomer the Dog, Peaches the Cougar, or Cheeseburger the Bear in Far Cry 5, you’ll first need to get them in front of you. This can be done by pressing left on your dpad when looking at the ground nearby. Once they’re in front of you, simply look at them and then wait for the button prompt to appear. You should now have the option to ‘Pet’ by pressing Square on PS4 or X on Xbox One. With that, a little animation will play as your choice of Fang for Hire enjoys the attention.
