Is There a New Game Plus Mode in Dragon Quest XI? What You Need to Know

Recommended Videos

It’s been a long time coming, but the Dragon Quest series is finally making its way back to the west with Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The first title in the series to be released in the United States since 2009’s Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, Dragon Quest XI is everything fans love about the series refined for the modern gaming landscape. And as such, some may be wondering if the game has a new game plus mode to extend the longevity of the experience.

Taking the role of a chosen hero, players must venture out into the land of Lotozetasia to gather allies, learn new abilities and uncover the dark plots of the Lord of Shadows before they drag the land into darkness and destruction. To this end, players can sink anywhere between 80 to 120 hours into the game before all is said and done, diving headlong not only into the main mission but also into the many side quests available and scattered throughout the game’s open world.

Once the end credits roll though, some might be curious as to whether there is a new game plus mode to begin with all of their abilities and equipment from their first run through. Unfortunately, the game does not include new game plus, and once the game is completed, that file is limited to the end game.

Instead of having new game plus to dive into once you’ve finished Dragon Quest XI, players can start a new file and choose to use the game’s Draconian Quest features to make the game more challenging in a variety of ways from increased enemy strength and health to decreased player stats and resistances. It should also be noted that, should the player wish to return to a normal run of the game, they can disable these Draconian Quest features at any time, but cannot reactivate them if they’ve been removed.

That’s all you need to know regarding whether or not Dragon Quest XI has a new game plus mode or not.

Dragon Quest XI is set for release on the PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch. For more on the game, check out our review as well as our wiki for everything you need to know about the game.
