Is Vergil Playable in Devil May Cry 5? What You Need to Know

Devil May Cry makes its triumphant return in the series’ latest game. Once again, players will hack and slash their way through hordes of demonic enemies in stylish fashion. This time around, though, there’s more than a single playable character. But is Vergil playable in Devil May Cry 5? Here’s what you need to know.

Before we go any further, do note that this article is going to touch on story spoilers for Devil May Cry 5. If you haven’t played the game and don’t want anything spoiled for you then be very careful.

Is He Playable in Devil May Cry 5

As you might have guessed from the above spoiler warning, the answer to the question isn’t as simple as yes or no.

Technically, the short answer is no, Vergil is not playable in the game. There are three playable characters in the game: Dante, Nero, and V.

Vergil isn’t one of those characters, except he is… sort of. Basically, you’ll later discover in the game’s story that V is Vergil. Well, he’s a part of Vergil. So you are sort of playing as Vergil, just not in his typical form that we know from other games.

Who Virgil Is

As it turns out, Vergil separated his human half from his demon half with the Yamato, and V is that human half.

However, you will actually fight Vergil-proper in the game, so he does appear in Devil May Cry 5.

As for whether we’ll get DLC content in the future that allows us to actually play as him, that’s unlikely given that Capcom has insisted there won’t be any DLC content for the game.

That being said, there could be a future special edition that adds him as a playable character. We saw something similar with DmC 3, so it’s not completely out of the realms of possibility.

That does it for whether Vergil is playable in Devil May Cry 5. You can be sure that we’ll be covering any news on whether he’s added to the game if that ever is the case. Until then, for more information and guides on Devil May Cry 5, be sure to check out our wiki page.
