Every weapon that’s new or returning in the Witch Queen expansion will have an Origin Trait in a third trait slot that’s dependent on its source. This includes Legendary weapons along with returning Iron Banner, Trials, and Nightfall weapons. Essentially, these traits are tied to the style of the gun manufacturer and can have effects such as, for example, Veist returning ammo to the magazine.

At the time of writing, there are 14 total Origin Traits in Witch Queen and Bungie plans to release three new ones for each season after Season 16. This means one for Season 17, another for the raid or dungeon, then one more for the seasonal event.

This may be Bungie’s way of leading players to swap out old favorite weapons for newer guns as an alternative to sunsetting older options. The new options might simply become more attractive without taking old ones away.
