How to Get Weapon Catalysts & What They Do in Destiny 2 Warmind

Destiny 2 is set to receive its second expansion in the form of Warmind. Players will be treated to new weapons, armor, story missions and Crucible challenges. There are major changes coming to the way Exotic weapons can be customized, with new Ornaments and new bonus perks available. One way in which new bonuses can be applied to Exotic Weapons in Warmind is via Weapon Catalysts. Unlocking these will allow for a player to complete a weapon’s Masterwork Path. These paths add everything from different firing modes to range increases.

To get Weapon Catalysts in Destiny 2 Warmind, you must first head into your inventory and hover over the correct slot for the Weapon you would like to add a bonus to. Here, there will be a cryptic hint indicating where you can unlock Weapon Catalysts. For example, the Coldheart Rifle’s is ‘found in strikes against the most challenging opponents.’ This indicates that the Weapon Catalyst can be earned through Nightfall Strikes. Applying it to the exotic weapon will unlock a more clear and direct objective for you to pursue. The weapon will then function like any other Masterwork Weapon, in that it will track enemies the player has defeated. By completing the objectives unlocked by the catalyst, the weapon can be upgraded to the final Masterwork state, which will apply additional stat bonuses specific to each one.

Not every exotic weapon will have a slot for Weapon Catalysts, though more will be added further down the line. If you inspect a weapon and find no slot for a Masterwork is visible, then the weapon does not yet have a Weapon Catalyst.
