Onyx Blade – Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel

The Onyx Blade is one of the new weapons you can obtain in the Ashes of Ariandel DLC. Shortly after beating the first boss and exploring the Painted World, you’ll run into an NPC named Sir Vilhelm. Killing Vilhelm then and there will give you access to a key needed to unlock an important door in the Painted World, as well as his cool-looking sword.

Elfriede, the eldest amongst her sisters and leader of the Sable Chruch, bestowed this sword to her knight.

Only, the sword was a farewell gift, and acceptance signified the knight’s resignation from Elfriede’s service.

Skill: Elfriede’s Blackflame

Enwreath blade with blackflame, born of the similarly-hued flame that smolders within her.

The weapon art on the Onyx Blade is pretty sweet, as it’s essentially a small buff that allows you to deal just a little bit more damage than you normally would. However, do note that it is a Greatsword, which means that while it does deal a lot of damage, it can be quite difficult to master because of its long windup and recovery times. It can help with clearing out mobs on the PVE side of things, but it might not be as effective in PVP.
